For me, it was Willy Wonka. When Violet inflates up intoa giant blueberry and gets rolled away, it frightened me. I think I was around 3 at the time.

Ah, the election. That time when leftists have to choose between a candidate who is openly hostile to everything they believe in and another who sometimes words things in a way that's not ideal. So hard to choose!

No one would ever have to swap an aisle seat for a middle. If it's that important, they should have paid for seats together. Two middles means they didn't want to buy seats.

Arguably, Talarico has more of a record that Obama did when he first ran for national office.
100
Greg B @btdgreg.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
This is pretty easy to look up. Talarico has voted against legislation to ban gender-affirming care and banning trans athletes from sports. In 2021, he defended trans children by saying "Trans children are God's children, made in God's own image. ... God is non-binary.

Greg B @btdgreg.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
I think you're being overly generous to Obama and overly critical of Talarico here.

That was an autocorrect typo. I know I can't expect any grace from you, just explaining.

Yeah. Also, does anytime really think that even a GOP Congress is going to approve $1T in government spending to a lame duck president in his last couple of years?

Ken Paxton, OTOH, has a history of activity persecuting trans people and punishing people who give them medical support. He's maliciously evil. One of these men will become a US Senator next year. This isn't a difficult decision.

Greg B @btdgreg.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
Let me clarify a little. Talarico's answer here may be politically expedient to the point of being slightlylightly cynical. It reminds me of Obama running on support for civil unions, but not gay marriage. Is that great? Not really, but understandable.

I mean, I'm not crazy about it, but I'll still gladly vote for Talarico over Ken freaking Paxton.

Greg B @btdgreg.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
Is Talarico anti-trans, but I'm somehow not aware of it, even though I've been following this race closely? Or are you just being rhetorical?

I met Glen Hansard, along with Marketa Irglova, during the Once publicity tour. He was so genuine and warm, and they sang "Falling Slowly" for me when I asked. Just a completely lovely person. Such sad news. www.bbc.com/news/article...

All the objective data, despite how you feel, suggests that Waymo is safer than human operated cars.

Have you ever taken a Waymo ride? Way safer than any rideshare I've ever had.

Greg B @btdgreg.bsky.social · 13/07/2026
It clearly is offering a service. It will transport you from one place in a city to another, safely.

Greg B @btdgreg.bsky.social · 13/07/2026
Yep, that's a weird take. I'm willing to debate the pros and cons of driverless cars but "Waymo is evil" is just dogmatic thinking.

It's partly a generational thing. I've experienced the same thing on Bluesky vs. TikTok. Young leftists in TikTok thought of Platner as the anti-establishment candidate. (That's starting to break down after this week's news, finally.) But the median age here on Bluesky seems much older.

Greg B @btdgreg.bsky.social · 07/07/2026
It's wild, but maybe not unexpected, that I'm seeing online leftists blame "establishment Dems" or the DNC for Graham Planter's troubles. The odd argument goes something like: if they hadn't have opposed him so hard, we wouldn't have liked him so much.
