Yet ANOTHER reason why google search is no longer to be trusted. This screenshot is for a search for the song "Closing Time" by Semisonic. A song that was released in 1998. This screenshot states the song released in 2012. This screenshot is wrong. And I'm unreasonably upset that it is wrong.

Jesper Myrfors has weighed in on the Dan Frazier One Ring controversy. (He was the first art director of Magic and worked closely with Dan Frazier over the years.) His comments about WotC are interesting and I personally agree. This was a huge miss on their part. Dan made a mistake but so did WotC.

I have been asked for my opinion so here it is:

I have known Dan for a long time. In that time I have found him to be a kind and honorable person. He knows he made a mistake and he is owning it. I think it's good to encourage that. I know this will weigh on him heavily and I like him too much to want to see him suffer. Dan was also an established artist when I approached him to take a risk on an new unproven game and he did not hesitate. He has always gone above and beyond. When my mother said she really like one of his magic illustrations, he gave it to her. It meant a lot. I am not defending his actions that lead to this but I will defend the man. I know this will not happen again. I am also unsure what role WotC may have played in all of this and I do not trust them. I do trust Dan. What happened here seems WAY out of left field. Where were the art directors? It is part of their job to catch things like this as a matter of course. It should never have gotten this far (This is no excuse, but it does raise some questions concerning WotC's role). I also want to be clear that I am in no way trying to gaslight anyone or say their personal reactions to this are wrong or right, that's not my place. I know Dan Frazier to be a good person and knowing what I know of him I would not hesitate to hire him again should opportunity arise in the future. He in no way has a history of copying other artist's work. He does not need to, he has his own artistic voice. That is not to say he did not make a big mistake, he did. My history with him allows me to move past it with no trouble. My hope is that he is given grace in this situation after a lifetime of earning it.

It seems there may have been some cognitive issues occurring at the time according to his agent. The "he did the right thing once he understood" gives me the impression he's slipping and some days he's there and some days he's not. Pure conjecture and could just be their way of explaining it away.

This reminded me of a game I was in where my buddy played Ral Zarek. He got to the ultimate where you flip a coin 5 times and each head gives an extra turn. He flipped a coin 5 times. It came up tails 5 times.

For YEARS I called it “Evolving Winds.” Don’t know why. Probably misread it the first time and didn’t bother to read beyond “Evolving” to catch the mistake. No one corrected me. I guess they just thought it was my pet name for it.

Went to a pick two draft tonight for my brawl league. (We draft each week to add to our pool.) Two of the other players were in my colors. (UB) And I was seated between them. By pick three there were no black or blue cards to be seen. Thankfully I pulled a Soul Stone as my p1p1. 😁

I just get annoyed when people insist that UB is the end of Magic. It is only the end of an ERA of Magic. It is the beginning of a new era that has proven a financial success. And it will continue for the foreseeable future. There will be no comeuppance. The die is cast. UB is here to stay.
