Yes, he was. In fact he was the major target of it. Göring and Hitler wanted to consolidate power away from the SA, which Röhm controlled.

Technically Ernst Röhm himself did not live through WWII. I wonder if there’s a lesson there for today’s young queer people. 🤔

They did this in Afghanistan at the start of Trump 1. And I can't help but have the same feeling here, they are talking down the president from pressing The Funnee Button by giving him something big and flashy as a distraction

Remember when Dirty Goose went out of business and those guys tried to open “Political Pattie’s” in its place? Somehow combining a bar concept NO ONE in DC wanted with the owners’ awful personal politics didn’t create a winning business model.

As a DC resident I couldn’t agree more. I shouldn’t have to walk by a bunch of armed goobers just to go about my daily business. Especially when said armed goobers aren’t accountable to anyone I vote for. That the armed goobers are mostly very expensively standing around doing nothing is secondary.

I attended mass in Ireland on the day of a major Hurling competition. I think that the homily was three sentences long.

Not exactly. Political polls report the spread between answers. For this question 6O% of republicans said they approve of Trump, 38% disapprove. The difference is +22. For democrats 5% approve, 94% disapprove. The difference is -89. (Don’t know, and neither approve nor disapprove not reported here).

Throwback to me reading an illustrated Sherlock Homes book that I won in the third grade spelling bee and legitimately thinking there was something wrong with the printing of the book when suddenly it transitioned to Utah.

They do sincerely want you to have more kids. But they want the wives to stay home and raise them. Expensive daycare is a plus for them.

“The belief that freedom means all people must have the right to shape their own lives” is basically a perfect description of the classical American liberal tradition going back to the founding documents, but sure it’s in opposition to “western” “assimilationist” values.

More seriously, California does have an incredibly diversified economy (although nearly every sector is currently facing headwinds). But you’re correct that there’s something of an assumption that everything will just keep humming along, hence eg no plans to protect the entertainment industry.

People can also find that fulfillment in a million different ways. Joining the proverbial bowling league, volunteering, being active in a house of worship, etc. These are all things we’ve pulled further and further away from in the past 50 years to our own and society’s detriment.

Joining a political group, like a local party chapter, or canvassing, or choosing a cause and agitating for it is active and can be fulfilling. Both because you might feel yourself achieving something and because honesty you’re going to interact with other people in community which is fulfilling.

Regarding A and C, there’s active and passive political engagement. Sitting and imbibing political content (be it Fox News or skeets from bluesky socialists) is passive. It can rile your emotions, but it can’t fulfill you. Voting is the tiniest bit more active, but it’s still barely active.

A friend of mine once pitched Harry Turtledove but instead of “what if the South won?” the guiding question is “what if the U.S. went ALL IN on reconstruction and then on the principles of equality and liberty for all, at increasingly global scale?”

The very direct applications are software development, data analysis, scientific research, and finance and accounting. There are definitely applications in softer areas, for example an aide for idea generation, but I definitely see why people in those fields are much more hostile.

I literally started my entire comment talking about how I mask but crazy maskers have made masking seem toxic, which makes people unlikely to do it. So we agree? The toxicity is bad? And the toxicity is about control not masking?

I conclude this from being a queer woman who has seen this dynamic in real life countless times. Some of us learn to avoid the emotional abuse of these people, and others get mired in it. It’s awful and a good part of our community, especially young people, get caught in it to their detriment.

Ellie F @btcarolus.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
Babe. Did you not read the article about the tenderqueers using masking as a cudgel to ruin a well meaning woman’s life? Not all danger is an attack on the street.

But the point of the original tweet is that republicans pull out very niche left wing figures and turn them into fake controversies. It wouldn’t matter to Fox News Viewers that he’s on YouTube and not Twitch, or that he doesn’t have clout. Hasan doesn’t even really have that much clout.

The problem is these guys aren’t being presented to the judgement of “the kids”, they’re being presented to the judgement of Grandma, who doesn’t know what the significance of Vaush getting banned from Twitch is. And there are so many skeletons in those corners of the left internet.

We need to track Vaush down and figure out how to lock him in an alternate dimension before he’s discovered.

Instead of a tool to make us safer, a mask is now a symbol that the person wearing it is a weirdo or even a danger.
130
Ellie F @btcarolus.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
And this is such a problem because I mask when I am sick, or in really specific situations where masking is prudent (eg when I was pregnant and in an urgent care waiting room). But like 95% of maskers seem like lunatics, and so people doing reasonable masking look like lunatics.

IIRC it was a story by a student in the student newspaper that got picked up by mainstream media. And the student was really writing more about how campus dining was trying to paper over crappy food by calling it ethnic things like banh mi and sushi that it had little resemblance to.

I’m currently pregnant and buying all the baby things. I have friends who had a child right around the time the tariffs first went into place. The increase in costs between what they paid and I am now paying is astounding. And baby products aren’t cheap to begin with!

I think it makes sense to do no-homework for K-2 if in-class worksheets are going home. But sometime between 3rd and 4th grade kids need to start doing homework. Also there should absolutely be an expectation of reading at home, no matter the grade level.
010
Ellie F @btcarolus.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
And a lot of middle class parents discovered that this was even happening to their kids in supposedly “good” schools during the pandemic. Education has really swung towards zero consequences in the last twenty years, and it’s a real failure for all our kids.
1110
Ellie F @btcarolus.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
The thing is, yes *this* particular mother should have done that. What about the several hundred other parents in that school, who are much less equipped to monitor their child’s education, probably poorly educated themselves, etc? The school should send graded papers home as a minimum standard.
110
Ellie F @btcarolus.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
Also not helpful that the school didn’t send homework or graded worksheets home. You can see if your kid is struggling over homework at the kitchen table, but you aren’t necessarily going to sit them down and give them an algebra test.
