Braden @bswift.io · 12hLove seeing job advertisements that say “native mobile” then you look inside and it says RN 🙃 such a joke 000
Braden @bswift.io · 12hAdded my app to review last night then said, oh I’ll start work on this feature a coworker asked for. Ya it took me like 1.5 hours is all to implement m4b support so now I’m debating do I pull my app out of review and just send it as well. I feel like it is a yes since it was another easy win 000
Braden @bswift.io · 25/09/2026I for sure agree. It is pretty pathetic how easy it is to bypass the few in game filters there are. Blizzard really should step it up and feed questionable chats to CMs to chat ban at a minimum and for repeat offenders suspend/full ban them. 010
Braden @bswift.io · 25/09/2026But ya it is sad how toxic and awful the wow community is in general 😞 011
Braden @bswift.io · 25/09/2026I’ve been using an addon called Global Ignore List and it has made a world of difference. It lets you filter out so many things. It blocks slurs, boost sales, whatever you want. I hope it works in forever. It might at least partially solve the problem. 210

Braden @bswift.io · 16/09/2026If you want to write and understand swift the most common recommendations I see are www.hackingwithswift.com/100 and www.hackingwithswift.com/100/swiftui. I haven’t gone through them myself (I learned swift 1.0 by reading the manual Apple released) but I’ve heard they are good.hackingwithswift.comThe 100 Days of SwiftFollow the 100 Days of Swift and learn to build apps for free. 000

Braden @bswift.io · 10/09/2026It is always nice chatting with a co-worker and not feeling like you are crazy afterwards because you have the same complaints and concerns. 000
Braden @bswift.io · 10/09/2026Also here is the link to the Shopify post for anyone that hasn’t seen it: shopify.engineering/back-to-nativeshopify.engineeringNative is now the future of mobile at Shopify (2026) - ShopifyCoding agents changed what it costs to build mobile apps twice. Here’s why Shopify is moving from React Native back to Swift and Kotlin. 000
Braden @bswift.io · 10/09/2026I definitely think the will be a common way for apps to be developed moving forward. Especially because you get all the benefits of being fully native with little extra work. 100
Braden @bswift.io · 10/09/2026Shopify posted about how they are moving back to native thanks to AI. I had a similar experience lately with doing a task that I wanted to test on iOS and Android. It worked out great. I wrote the iOS code with Claude and it was high quality and then it ported good code over to Android. 100

Braden @bswift.io · 09/09/2026Is it even worth replying to that review, probably but I don’t know what to say that isn’t going to be sarcastic at the moment. 000
Braden @bswift.io · 09/09/2026Whelp got my first 1 star review on an app I made myself… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ sorry I let you fully test and use my app before asking for any money to import more books? 000
Braden @bswift.io · 09/09/2026While SwiftData is from Apple I would avoid it. It has a lot of gotcha’s. I use github.com/pointfreeco/... which is extremely similar and easy to use. Braden @bswift.io · 04/09/2026And that is just the start. I have plenty of other complaints as well. I just don’t like RN for a lot of reasons is the short answer. 010
Braden @bswift.io · 04/09/2026Well I feel very confident in my iOS knowledge and am generally considered the swift expert where I’ve worked before. I don’t particularly care for web tech, especially when RN gives you the worst of native and web dependency management. Plus the way in which it was forced upon me really wasn’t cool 130
Braden @bswift.io · 04/09/2026I should probably update my resume in general… The question is how do I put that I’ve suffered through react native for a year and mostly pivoted during that year to backend. I want to focus on iOS still but I sure as hell don’t want to do more react native or have people try to convincing me on it. 120
Braden @bswift.io · 03/09/2026Wow not cool… blaming me for not having a thing when I sent it to you the day before… 000
Braden @bswift.io · 02/09/2026Always fun when you co-worker is anxiously awaiting your work and when you send it over 1 minute after they ask for it again and they go AFK for like 30+ minutes… 000

Braden @bswift.io · 03/08/2026Bah good to know. I’ve run that before but didn’t know it also cleaned up AssetsV2 000
Braden @bswift.io · 03/08/2026The POC I’ve been working on is blazing fast on iOS thanks to Metal. On a cheap Android device it is so slow… It takes 3+x the time of a recording to process things… I really need to get hardware acceleration with the GPU working for it but even google is meh on their GPU support for Android… 000
Braden @bswift.io · 03/08/2026Why does Apple have 65gigs of simulator backups in /System/Library/AssetsV2 which is a SIP protected folder! 😡 In all my years doing iOS development I’ve never had it show up as a place of eating a bunch of storage… This has been extra painful with work only giving me a 500gb HD 110
Braden @bswift.io · 31/07/2026Anyways I found a library that I’m pretty sure does what I want with a bit more work but it is Apache 2 instead of EUPL. 000
Braden @bswift.io · 31/07/2026Just had Claude basically tell me, “if the owner of this library is small you can either bully them or ignore them and use the software as closed source anyways” 😬 yikes 100
Braden @bswift.io · 29/07/2026Google hasn’t added any on device LLM stuff like Apple!?!? Foundation Models is so nice for basic LLM tasks. I guess the time has come to cross the hugging face boundary and get that working on iOS and Android once I get whisper.cop fully working. 000
Braden @bswift.io · 29/07/2026Just now seeing I can add animations to my load calls… How did I miss this before? It will be so nice to go update stuff to use that and get free animations. 111
Braden @bswift.io · 27/07/2026Just whisper.cpp so far as it was also very easy to setup. Looking at getting Hugging Face stuff up and running next. 000
Braden @bswift.io · 27/07/2026iOS 26 with Apple Intelligence stuff has been pretty great for my initial POC and keeping things simple. 000
Braden @bswift.io · 27/07/2026So far just using the on device voice transcription and Foundation Models LLM stuff. But now I’m working on getting Whisper and hugging face models running on device so we can share more exact behavior between iOS and Android. 100
Braden @bswift.io · 27/07/2026I’m getting to play with on device AI stuff for work and it is so much fun getting to do native stuff again 120
Braden @bswift.io · 19/07/2026Just had my first sale on my app that wasn’t friends or family. It pushed me over the threshold of have I spent or made money on my apple developer license this year for the first time. I’m not making tons of money obviously but it feels good to sort of break even for once. 040
Braden @bswift.io · 19/07/2026Still it is wild to me that it would flip my light and dark mode colors there… 000
Braden @bswift.io · 19/07/2026That color bug the other day, ya it wasn’t a simulator bug. It is an iOS26 bug. I finally updated my phone from 18 🙃 and now my phone is doing the same thing. So no more tinted glass modifier just a solid background for that view 🤷♂️ 110
Braden @bswift.io · 16/07/2026So to sync this to our new system as we migrate users we have to check if the note ID was nulled out between the before and after images of the database row… 000
Braden @bswift.io · 16/07/2026So at work we have custom labeled checkboxes that companies can add to their employee notes. The system for unchecking a checkbox is RIDICULOUS. It goes to the table where the association between the note and the checkbox being checked lives and nulls out the note ID instead of changing its value… 100
Braden @bswift.io · 13/07/2026I am also sad about the fact he is no longer on the core team when I see him post. 000
Braden @bswift.io · 13/07/2026Sadly Apple took WWDC 2018 videos down from being searchable… So luckily there is this Reddit post that links to the direct download that is still up: www.reddit.com/r/cpp/commen... I have downloaded it myself just to make sure it doesn’t get lost if the link ever breaks. 100
Braden @bswift.io · 13/07/2026Every time I see Dave Abrahams post on the swift forums I am reminded of his presentation Embracing Algorithms from WWDC 2018. It is the most influential presentation on how I approach software development (even though I often fail to apply its principles). 150
Braden @bswift.io · 10/07/2026I’ve been doing a decent amount of go stuff at work lately and I just miss the functional aspects of swift that I now take for granted. Like being able to do first(where:) calls instead of looping and breaking in first match. 020
Braden @bswift.io · 09/07/2026Also I very much appreciate you trying to help me debug this issue. 000
Braden @bswift.io · 09/07/2026Ya the bundle is also in a package not the main bundle. I have an overload of the bundle finder that I use so it resolves in previews as well. Historically it was busted and wouldn’t load any assets in previews (supposedly that is fixed now, but it wasn’t last I tried…). 000
