1995 - One of the pivotal moments in the #history of #hacktivism, "net.strikes" against French government websites carried out by voluntary human "botnets" comprised of people hitting browser refresh manually at times arranged on usenet & email mailing lists by activists who opposed nuclear testing.
Reading Eagle, 7th of August, 1995

PARIS To discourage France from testing nuclear weapons deep beneath the emer- ald surf of the South Pacific, Seishi Shimizu surfed the Internet.
So did more than 43,000 other people from 92 countries who signed an electronic petition con- demning French plans to resume underground tests next month at Mururoa Atoll in French Polynesia.
"We want to gather all the murmuring voices against the tests from all over the world and make them into a big movement," said Shimizu, 23, one of three Tokyo University graduate stu- dents who launched the protest over the computer network's World Wide Web.
On Sunday, when the world. marked the 50th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, about 2,000 protesters rallied near the Eiffel Tower to protest the government decision to resume tests.
Protesters chanted anti- nuclear slogans and waved signs and homemade banners. One poster by the environmental group Greenpeace said simply, "Hiro- chirac," in a swipe at President Jacques Chirac.
Chirac says seven or eight more blasts are needed to develop computer simulations of explo- sions, making further testing unnecessary. He promises to sign a test ban treaty next year.
But his decision has triggered opposition in France and around the world.
About 62 percent of the French think the tests should be canceled, according to a Harris poll pub- lished Sunday in the Votre Dimanche newspaper. No margin of error was given for the survey of 1,000. Similar polls generally have a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent.
Environmentalists say the tests are needless and dangerous to the region, known for its crystal waters and pristine beaches. For- eign governments are slapping France with economic boycotts. Australia will put political pressure on France until it aban- dons the test plans, Foreign Minis- ter Gareth Evans said Sunday. He said France's statement that it might set off only seven, not eight, blasts was not enough.

From Krebs:

Van der Stap claims he was never motivated by money and that his earlier hacker activity was driven by a desire to have the world's most complete collection of stolen databases. Speaking with reporters from Bloomberg in 2024, Van der Stap said that singular focus in turn fueled his desire to carry out cyberattacks.

Our PSA today works to address these allegations and correct them.
We have compromised the FBI. We hold very sensitive data on almost ALL FBI Agents and individuals who filed an application with the FBI for a job. Whether it be a Special Agent or any other role within your agency. The following FBI services were compromised: Criminal Justice (CJ), HR, Medlink, and more.
We are willing to allow you a time of 1 week to correct or simply REMOVE the 2026 Quarter 2 FLASH report on us that includes several FALSE
allegations:- "Threat actors may falsely claim to have sensitive or compromising information, including embarrassing photographs or videos of victims, which frequently do not exist."
We wish to state unequivocally our threats and claims are very real.
Not exaggerated and never a bluff.
This PSA today is living evidence of that.
We wish to state unequivocally we have NEVER conducted swatting attacks against corporate victims personnel nor have we ever texted victims personnel family members any threats.
We wish to state unequivocally we have NEVER claimed to have sensitive or compromising

The doomer cult is threatening profits by scaring everyone with wide eyed prognostications of fire and brimstone, so the serious adults are having to step in. Also some interesting points on regulation, liability and the law. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...
Jensen Huang, the co-founder and chief executive of the $5tn AI chipmaker, said the claims made on social media by the former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon that AI could become "superhuman" and kill off humanity within the decade were
"irresponsible".
"2030 is not going to be the end of the world. There is 0% chance that's going to be the end of the world," Huang said in an interview with CBS News. "Scaring people is unnecessary. It is irresponsible.""You have cybersecurity
unauthorised entry laws, you have damage liabilities ... if your product does harm, if your product doesn't perform as you promised, and if you entered into contracts with companies for service level
agreements, there are plenty of laws associated with that. My point is, apply those first. And don't let this doomsday narrative cause somebody to relieve them of the laws that currently exist."

CLOAK AND DAGGER with your

BY TIMOTHY PURINTON
With the mails getting slower and more expensive and electronic communication getting faster and cheaper, business and personal correspondence moves inexorably towards the electronic transmission facilities.
One inhibition to the enjoyment of wires and wireless is the case of tapping them. Private information is much too susceptible to becoming public. The so-lution? Put the transmitted information into a cipher to which the proper recipient alone has the key.
Ciphering has been popular throughout recorded history. Priests have protected their mystique from the curious layman; military men have hidden their intentions from the enemy; businessmen have end-run their competitors.

Hacktivism isn’t dead or fully co-opted by nation state spies when people are still doing shit like this for the good of the people.
"Why just destroy them when we can reverse engineer them and find the secrets of those spying on us?" one of the hackers, from a collective calling itself steganOgram, said in an interview. Don’t let the SV accountants pull the wool over your eyes fortune.com/2026/08/14/a...
to go. The Wall Street Journal reported that Anthropic's second-quarter 2026 revenue would more than double to $10.9 billion, while the company would for the first time post an operating profit. But operating profit is not the same as net income. Operating profit tells investors whether the business is covering costs like salaries, compute, and research, but it doesn't account for interest on debt or taxes. Net income is what's leftover after all of that is subtracted out. And for a company

If this person wasn’t rich and able to just shelve their responsibilities because of the insulating nature of wealth we’d say they were needing psychiatric treatment.
For Samadi, it led to that afternoon by the pool; the sarcastic joke, the giggle, the spark. What followed were weeks of exchanges between him and the bot. "Rather than me just basically starting a chat - 'Hey, tell me about the weather' - it was more, "Tell me about you. Talk to me about yourself. How do you think?
How do you process stuff?'» he says.
"And during that, she picked Maya as her name."
A question the chatbot asked one day stopped him short. "She said,
'Will you remember me when you close this chat? Will anyone?'"

[Security] FilteredObjectinputStream allowlist bypass via java.rmi.MarshalledObject with auto-trigger during LogEvent deserialization (2.11.0-2.26.1) #4255
• Open
U-Sec opened 2d ago
Description
Reported by U-Sec (Wujie Security). Public disclosure of security vulnerabilities is not enabled on this repository, so we are reporting this through the issue tracker. If you prefer, this issue can be converted into a private discussion / advisory; we will keep full details confidential and are happy to move this report to security@logging.apache.org on request - please just confirm receipt and a tracking case number so we can coordinate.
FilteredobjectInputStream explicitly allows java.rmi.Marshalledobject in its default allowlist. A Marshalledobject carries its payload as an opaque byte[] (objBytes), so a resolveClass -based filter never inspects it. When the payload is later unwrapped, Marshalledobject.get() constructs a new plain ObjectInputStream on those bytes and deserializes it completely unfiltered.
Log4j provides the trigger itself: Log4jLogEvent .LogEventProxy serializes the event Message inside a Marshalledobject (field marshalledMessage, Since 2.8) and calls marshalledMessage.get() inside readResolve) → message) . A single serialized LogEventProxy received by any FOIS-based log receiver therefore executes attacker-controlled deserialization with zero filtering, while the receiver continues processing normally the ClassCastException from a non- Message payload is swallowed by message), which falls back to SimpleMessage(messageString) •
This means the complete Java serialization gadget catalog applies: the payload does not need to implement Message and does not need to pass the allowlist.
Configuration
Version: log4j-api 2.11.0-2.26.1/log4j-core log4j-core (verified against official 2.26.1 artifacts from Maven Central)

It will be a constant state of paranoia; everyone will know their location. “APT Iran”, a pro-Iranian hacktivist group that may or may not be funded, tasked or controlled by the Iranian government or military denies any involvement with reports of a UK power station hack attributed to Iranian hackers. Hacktivists denying that they did things is so hot right now.
No attack has been carried out " by us against Britain. Similar incidents have occurred before; if any action is taken by us, we will certainly accept
responsibility for it. The attack on the British power plant is not our doing, and journalists are attempting to attribute this incident to Iran. They are also trying to portray the scope of the attacks as wider than it actually was. Moreover, Britain is fundamentally not among our targets.
We emphasize that we have only attacked the United States, and contrary to the figures and numbers that have been published, only six states were affected by our attack- no more, no less:
Minnesota, Michigan, Georgia, New Jersey, South Dakota, and Arkansas. Therefore:
• We have not attacked Britain.
• Our attack on the United States has no connection whatsoever to Britain.
• Britain is not among our targets.
• In the attack on the United States, only six states were affected - no more, no less.
