This is not a subtweet at an exec who just put the question I asked into an AI chatbot and repeat the nonsensical answer back at me verbatim. Not at all.

One must wonder if Anna Kornbluh was being too generous with her academic and ultimately neutral use of the word "immediacy". The way these bigcorps and frontier labs are going, it seems the intent is more dismediation leading to a dismediacy presented as immediacy

My botanical knowledge is so lacking that I didn't know anemones are flowers. I had casually mentioned to the missus that sea anemones had a superfluous "sea" in it. Now I know better. Wiki: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anemone

Related to my previous post about people using GenAI/LLMs for everything, regardless of whether they should, whether it makes sense, and whether what they are doing with it even is something that is worth doing in the first place.
The "Drink coffee: do stupid things faster, with more energy" meme, but with the alternative caption "Use AI everywhere: do stupid things faster, using more energy"

I quite enjoyed the first two episodes of Bookish. The missus, who missed it asked for my summary: it's Sherlock in the 1940s. And this time Mark Gatiss has a beard.

Last episode has quite uneven writing. Zuko and Katara in the Crystal Cave was the worst. The Gaang's argument was also quite bad. But I liked the changes, tho they lacked breathing space.

Episode 1 of season 2 of ATLA has no breathing room whatsoever. Who thought cramming half of Book 2 into one episode was a good idea? Still enjoyed it tho. The new Azula is perfect. Healing serpent was a nice touch. Just wished episode 1 was 3 episodes long instead of the breakneck pace we got.

Time is just an illusion bro. Puff puff pass bro. In all seriousness, how would this account for comatose patients who experience whole other lives (I've not finished reading, and presumably the part on predictive coding would explain something there)

Jesus. Reality needs to stop snooping into my WIPs. I wrote this a year ago for Mode Collapse, my second novel. (the Voss of Elara/Elias are a cult that features quite a bit in the later parts of the story)

What bullshit. I literally fixed this conflict in a text editor locally on my machine (it was THREE LINES!!!) followed by a force push. I ain't gonna need copilot to fix this for me. WTF. Is this how dire it is that Github'd nerf the web editor to promote copilot use??
A screenshot on Github during a PR merge. There's a conflict that prevents a merge.

The text on screen says "These conflicts are too complex to resolve in the web editor" and the button that suggestively follows says "Fix with Copilot"

They surf the innards of my skin, disrupting the idyllic floating peace of
the Man II and many more. Amongst the disrupted many emerged what must
seem to themself (if indeed they have a self), a hero. A leader of the pack. A
GalT — John, I shall call them — spins, and bores a hole in the outer shell of
one of the invading IgG. Then, seemingly in cooperation, the Man II packed a
passing sugar into the borehole. The warmth of such a vigorous activity spreads through my skin, inspiring more vim and vigour amongst the Man II and the GalT into yet more action.

With some help from @gro-tsen.bsky.social, Paul Schwahn and I have proved a conjecture connecting the Standard Model to octonions. I'm talking about it on Sunday at 14:30 UTC. I think you can watch it on on Zoom here : aubg-satellite-workshop.netlify.app It probably won't be recorded. (1/n)

Ted Chiang on AI: www.theatlantic.com/philosophy/2...
Being open to the possibility that LLMs are conscious is the same as being open to the possibility that Microsoft Word is conscious, or, more precisely, that multiple distinct consciousnesses are dormant in every Word document containing a conversational transcript, and that they are awakened every time the document is loaded. Should you consider the possibility that every time you open a Word document you are bringing multiple conscious interlocutors into existence, and every time you close one you snuff their existence out? No. Contemplating that scenario is not a good use of your time. Even if the Microsoft Office team employed a philosopher who said you shouldn’t be so certain, because consciousness is not well understood, that would not be sufficient reason for you to take this idea seriously. We don’t need to fully understand the nature of consciousness to definitively say that certain things are not conscious, and conversational transcripts fall in that category.
