worst case, this is still decent instant speed target removal, if not better than the wipe and -5/-5 hits a LOT of things, goes around indestructible, you know the drill and maybe you can even put this in a deck where you WANT your own tokens tokens to die en masse no idea what that would be tho

like, obviously something that EXEMPTS certain cards from the wipe is always gonna be better than one that only INCLUDES since in this example, you can't really control if an enemy is gonna have tokens or not, ones that are smaller than 2 no less but the chances are higher than you'd think

anyways this card itself is... it's fine 2 for a 1/1 with effectively two instances of deathtouch obviously as i mentioned it has been directly piwercrept, but i can't say it's terrible deathtouchers good if a deck could run both and would run one, it would probably run the other as well

i wouldn't say its particularly good but if you have a deck full of tramplers and death touchers that also give these effects to each other, you're bound to connect at some point best card in that deck is dragon sniper btw (see day 7) i really gotta show the deck off some day it's jank but so fun

though if you care, studious first-year is a much newer bear, so it's not even fair to compare the bigger issue here is it's in simic, where you have SO many cards that share the slot of ramp piece if you're aware so to pick this over the others that are there you need a pretty good reason to dare

so if this is your onedrop, it's technically better but you don't even get that much blocker value if you wanna ramp asap (i guess you can ramp at instant speed at least) also if you have anything to reprepare the bear, or just play it on turn 3 or later, that one's obviously much better too

either way you use it, 2 mana is very much ok and with an effect as unique as this you are probably only gonna find it in decks that can make the proper use of it to begin with, so i can't really compare it it's either a niche but well-priced tutor, or the most genius theft card you've ever seen

it's target player, but since the searched cards NEED flashback, you can't really use it as specific card hate you can't know if they even HAVE 3 cards with flashback, and if they do you are only enabling those cards for them if anything however if you replace that put into graveyard event... hehe

there's definitely better things you could be doing with one mana but it's not terrible, i wouldn't be mad about drawing it if my deck was built around a similar powerlevel which just sounds like a polite way of saying its ass... ok... the hybrid mana makes it very consistent as a onedrop at least

i guess the break in the color pie is nice, temporary fliers are usually blue methinks but i think those are terrible to begin with anyway why would you pay for it repeatedly when there's rarely a reason not to have it on and there's so many cheap flyers and pay 3 no less, i think 1'd be too much

sure, there's the question of how much mana you're gonna have left for something big after having already payed 3, but it's in jeskai, you have some way of generating tons of mana i'm sure and you also have like all the blink spells under the sun available to you

of course, actually keeping a card that says "you win the game" for multiple turns is kinda disneyland but what's the worst outcome of that, really you either have 13 cards in hand or baited a removal spell for 2 mana let's be honest, neither situation is one you should be upset with

so basically once the trigger goes on the stack and you are close to 13 cards you can either tap a few lands to draw, or flash something out to get rid of cards, blue has plenty of both and other ways to manipulate your hand, then you let the trigger resolve, et voilá

and yes it has rebound, giving you the effect twice but the best use of a bounce is to keep it up as removal or protection rebound heavily restricts timing and thus options, and the base spell isn't even an instant to begin with, meaning you will never be able to use this to its full potential (2/2)

while some of those cards may require you to play more than just blue, some others also are just WAY stronger, having additional effects or even countering more than one thing however worst case, you still end up with a 4 mana 3/3 flying and you should run it alongside other counterspells anyways
