Wonder if Alito retires in November if Dems win the Senate.

I've thought it would be great if Ganz did a version of When the Clock Broke, but for the GWB/Obama period.

Yes exactly, and relying on in-house engineers etc. rather than outside consultants would make that easier

Same. I never want to see Tennessee, Michigan, Alabama, LSU, USC, etc. in black or gray

Wes Moore in Maryland? And I don't know how involved the governor's office is, but California is doing some great stuff in SF, LA, and Orange County, not to mention CAHSR.

I've always thought "they don't give a shit about you" would be our best message, and something that all other messages (corruption, war, inflation, tariffs) can fit into

I'm strongly anti-jerking off over Trump in general, but I do think it's worth being clear that the midterms won't help, Trump's unpopularity doesn't constrain him, and an intervening Dem admin can't do much to prevent this happening again.

Ben Sedrish @bsedrish.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
This is sort of a weirdargument, since "mandate" isn't a term with a broadly accepted meaning, political scientists think such a thing is fake, etc. But doesn't the ultimate point--it only took a bit of inflation for America to hand the presidency and Congress to dipshits--stand?

Ben Sedrish @bsedrish.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
The flip side of this flip side is that people can see polls showing Republicans being negatively polarized against Canada, so even a term of President Pritzker won't stop the next MAGA administration from doing all of this again

The NYT stories about Polymarket really demonstrate how clearly the industry has captured the agency, which was clear to everyone there as soon as Pham took over. Sad.

It'll be interesting to see where SCOTUS lands on preemption. Old school conservatives would hate the federalism implications, ACB's version of major questions should kill it, but they're all full of shit, sooooo

Insane that they can't see kids rooting for UT in ridiculous cowboy hats and overalls as anything but a huge cultural victory

Hell, just abandoning the CFTC's stupid preemption position would cut them down to size

Interesting, thanks. I always assumed aligning pharma/auto regs would help, but I hadn't considered building codes, too.

It's also sort of nuts because the structure doesn't matter to how easy it is to get rid of it. The trump admin isn't spending appropriated money! Like, what other realistic way could the money going out have been guaranteed in the face of this administration?

Got it. I liked to poke around in some of the smaller ag markets when I was at the CFTC and was always curious about all the different, thinly traded fertilizer contracts
