Recommended 👇 Side note: several Turkish journalists thought during the early years of the Cold War that Americans were new to the Middle East politics. Well, they weren't.

Casarse in Spanish means to get married. The root word is casa, which means ev in Turkish. Ev is the root word of the verb evlenmek, which means to get married. Huh!

And that portrayal varies quite constantly depending on the ever-changing circumstances and requirements of the present time. Yes, the past is never static perhaps, but this one is of a rather head-spinning quality.

Turkish Islamists' portrayal of Abdülhamid II doesn't have much to do with the sultan. But they don't really care as it serves their agenda. If it wasn't Abdülhamid, it would have been another sultan. There are more than 30 of them, and even Ibrahim I the Mad could do the job :)

Geçen birisi II. Wilhelm'in II. Abdülhamid karşısında hayranlıktan titrediğini falan yazdı. Hayır ne gerek var buna diyen de yok. Bunu duymak isteyen kitleyi bulan anlatıyor böyle şeyler. Talep-arz meselesi.

(3/3) This wasn't the famous fez (this came later) and it isn't clear what they looked like, but the Mongols also liked Turkish hats and demanded them in their tribute payments. (The above image is later) If you'd like to find out more about the Crusades ⬇️

(2/3) So many crusaders returned wearing Turkish hats that a regional French council tried to ban them. The Knights Templar also wore felt hats and fought with Turkish maces. By the 13thC, Turkish hats were so popular they were exported in bulk as far away as England.
