Privacy and due process matter. But in universities, confidentiality can also hide misconduct, protect reputations, and leave those harmed to bear the costs. This is not a call to abandon fairness. It is a call to ask whom our current processes actually protect.

Bioethicists may not make the final decision, but we still shape which problems are visible, which options seem reasonable, and what institutions can defend as legitimate. The challenge is not to deny that power, but to exercise it without turning expertise into moral authority.

Bioethics cannot become genuinely global by exporting finished North American frameworks. It needs multiple centres, reciprocal critique, and traditions willing to be changed by the contexts they enter. The goal is not a new orthodoxy, but a field plural enough that no one speaks for everyone.
