In the 80s, New Zealand choose frigates to operate alongside the US Navy. Now, those frigates are nearing retirement age, and Wellington gets a choice: repeat that decision with a much less consistent partner in Washington, or build a navy to different ends. internationalpolicy.org/publications...

It's been a minute since I've published. NZ has some big navy acquisition decisions coming up, and I argue for CIP that foregoing frigates for lower-cost, less crew intensive OPVs/unmanned systems can patrol more area w/o getting dragged into US wars. internationalpolicy.org/publications...
