We’re truly in a crisis of people projecting human emotions onto software that mimics human texting behavior because we’re wired to anthropomorphize and we’ve learned how to project emotions on the people we text with.

I’m excited about one day maybe knowing enough about consciousness that we can figure out if AI can replicate it. But LLMs are light-years away from that kind of technology and any honest or non-brainwashed person should easily see that.
