First-Ever Olive Ridley Sea Turtle Nested in California
An olive ridley sea turtle was observed digging a nest and laying eggs on the beach near Seal Beach, in Orange County, California on September 16, 2026. This is the first-ever recorded nest for any sea turtle species on the U.S. West Coast. The nesting female was discovered about 3 p.m. by a beachgoer who alerted the Huntington Beach life guards. Three days later and about 8 miles away, a second turtle was observed around 7 p.m. nesting near the Huntington Beach Pier.

Should Small Businesses Build or Outsource Their Data Center Infrastructure? | socPub
Deciding whether to build or outsource data infrastructure is a critical strategic choice for any small business. The right path depends on a careful evaluation of costs, long-term goals, and the distinct advantages and disadvantages of each approach. Business owners and IT teams can follow specific frameworks to make that determination. The Case for Building a Data Center Building an on-site data center means a business commits to purchasing, housing and managing all of its own server, storage and networking hardware.

A new phenomenon in my neighborhood: people are buying upper-middle-class houses for what I consider a lot of money, then doing extensive remodeling for at least another $100,000. I don't know what's going on, but I never dreamed anyone would see the need for houses only 20 years old.

Building Drama-Free Open Source Communities | socPub
Open source thrives when people come together. Not just to write code, but to solve problems, share knowledge, and build software that benefits everyone. Scattered across the globe, contributors bring wildly different priorities, personality, and communication styles to the table. While conflict is inevitable, how a community handles that conflict is what separates the oens that thrive from the ones that implode.Be Helpful by DefaultA drama-free community isn’t one without debate, but it’s one where the core principles of: be helpful, be human and be honest create the conditions for successful collaboration.

As I begin this blog post with a bourbon on the rocks beside me, I notice it has been four months since my last entry. That feels surprising because I am recently retired and one would expect I have more time to write my stories. Yet time does not expand in a day, whether we work, raise a family, or leave the daily job behind. Retirement does not grant extra hours; it offers a chance to reorder what matters within the time available.

7 Cybersecurity Red Flags All Small Businesses Should Monitor | socPub
Cybersecurity problems rarely announce themselves with a dramatic system failure. They often begin with small inconsistencies, such as an unfamiliar login notification, an unexpected request from a superior or a sudden change in computer behavior. Recognizing the warning signs early gives IT teams and employees more time to contain a potential incident.1. Unusual Login Attempts or Account ActivityUnexpected login notifications can be an early indication that someone is attempting to access an account. Multiple failed login attempts, sign-ins from unfamiliar locations or activity outside an employee's normal working pattern all warrant investigation.
