Even if you don’t “like scary movies” you should watch a scary movie this October! Be counter cultural toward the algorithmic overlords that want us to stay in a lane of formulaic cinema. substack.com/@bryanroth/n...

ChatGPT was recently measured to have ~4% of search share - remarkable compared to even something like Bing, which is just under 2% and been around forever (in internet time) Worse: click thru rates crater when AI overviews are offered. Some measures are -15 to -20% (from last year, I presume)

WHO data that ran until 2020 www.who.int/data/gho/dat... There seems to be a direct tradeoff in volume between spirits and "other" which includes "sorghum, maize, millet, rice, or cider, fruit wine, fortified wine." So I wonder if it's a legal/tax/classification thing?

Q: There was a massive drop-off in consumption of liquor in Japan from 1999 to 2000, a shift that has only started to reverse 20 years later. What happened? Seeking help! Can't discover a neat answer. Taxes? Availability? Other?

There's no more important factor to hemp-derived THC sales than geography. To drinkers, THC is THC, so where cannabis isn't legal, hemp bevs are the obvious choice. @bryandroth.bsky.social and I have done deep reporting on this space for Sightlines. If you're interested in our work here, DM me.
A map of the US shows geographies where Americans are most curious about hemp-derived THC. High volume of Google searches for hemp THC products coincide with states that do not have high densities of cannabis dispensaries.

Circana and Nielsen both collect scanner data on all that, although the collection you may be imagining would be a customized collection of those things. Carbonated soft drinks, juice, etc. fall into their own categories, but the info is out there!

Global non-alc drinks sales are less than just the beer Anheuser-Busch and Constellation Brands sell in retail stores the US alone. An estimated $24 billion in global alc-free in 2024 while AB and CB sold close to $30 billion

For the first time since craft beer’s mid-2010s apex, Total Wine is a place to find newly canned product. Stopped counting the number of different hemp-derived THC brands at my local shop, which is overwhelming. (Citrus a very popular flavor across orange, lime, lemonade-focused SKUs)

A simple, illustrated graphic shows abstract houses with text overlaid. The text reads: When you look at the ways in which people are living,t he biggest story since 2012 has been how quickly our household sizes has changed.

In March-May 2024, Mexican imports accounted for just over 83% of all import beer into the U.S. tracked by the Beer Institute each month. This is the first time Mexican beers have held a share of at least 83% for 3 consecutive months. This is a +10% jump from 5 years ago: May 2019 was ~73%.
