Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 4hSo the premise is there was an uprising and now the replicants rule? That has the potential to be either pretty interesting or the Worst Thing. 010
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 09/10/2026I feel like it's going to be ground zero for a new round of "cosy horror" discourse. 010
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 09/10/2026It's #LetterboxdFriday - here's my #LastFourWatched Two solid horrors and two Cronenbergs, one not so great, the other little-seen but very interesting. 0310
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Yeah, Welcome to Derry had a young Dick Hallorann. That was on the Skydance network though, so might not cross over with Carrie unless we get a sort MCU/Sony spider-man situation. 110
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 09/10/2026No last name given, so could still be a Halloran. 030
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 09/10/2026At one point in the finale, a character talks about how certain people have "shine" so I fully expect this to link into Doctor Sleep or create a Stephen King Cinematic Universe. 370
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 07/10/2026It does remind me a bit of a drawing my kid did when he was three. I like to think the speech bubble represents an unpronounceable-by-human-tongue demonic language. 051
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Maybe Jeremy Strong's method acting is extremely fucking annoying, but at least his performance in Social Reckoning is being universally panned. Can't argue with those results. 010
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 03/10/2026I'd include Six Feet Under in that category. I need to rewatch Homeland sometime. I remember it started getting a bit wacky in S2 and Brody really wore out his welcome fast, but the show gradually improved after he left and once the new characters had time to bed-in. 010
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 02/10/2026It's #LetterboxdFriday - here's my #LastFourWatched Not.a bad week, overall. I found the new Toy Story about as maudlin as I expected, but caught up on some classics and enjoyed Pamela Anderson's performance in Last Showgirl. 0400
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Oh boy oh boy just wait until you hear her accent 010
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Disappointed that this film has no apparent connection to The Fiery Furnaces. 140
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 28/09/2026I loved this. I used to work with (fs pulsed Ti) sapphire lasers and just started showing SU to my kid, so it's really bringing it all together for me. 011
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Yeah, I'm the same - and it's not even genre specific. I wouldn't be particularly surprised if someone didn't know there was new Avengers movie coming out (for instance). 110
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 25/09/2026It's on the Russian version of YT (OK dot ru) and has English subtitles, though I'm not wild about using Russian websites! I found Hatter's Ghost on there too, but that doesn't have eng subs so might also take some creativity. 220
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Tag yourself I'm...wait, no. No, let's not do that this time. 0360
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 25/09/2026It sounds like they've created the taste equivalent of a jump scare. 010
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 25/09/2026I'll have to track this one down. I recently saw The Butcher and thought it was pretty good. 110
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 25/09/2026It's #LetterboxdFriday - here's my #LastFourWatched Two pretty solid new takes on old genres, a great biopic by Spike Lee, and Wes Craven's New Nightmare, because I saw a reference to Wes Craven's New Nightmare in another film I watched recently. 0400
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Like being alone then seeing someone you know and saying "ah, speak of the devil." 072
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 23/09/2026As was fairly typical for people my age, Darth Vader came to our school to talk about road safety. 1450

Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 18/09/2026There's pictures of him cycling online and I don't know if someone would notice the leg or tattoo. The evidence he was in his office at the time of the attack could be strong - e.g. if he'd sent emails shortly before or after. 031
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 18/09/2026It's #letterboxdFriday so here's #lastfourwatched I guess it was a three-star kind of week, with plenty of dinosaurs. 0370
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 17/09/2026But I can't STOP my LAN-accessible pods deploying to my Kubernetes cluster! 010
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 16/09/2026No, there's this one too bsky.app/profile/jav.... 010
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Stellan Skarsgard is just incredible in this. There's a quiet moment when he's alone and he sits down and kind of slumps a little and you can *see* him age, like the years are settling on his shoulders. 110
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Things I was frightened of as a child: 1. A patch of stained/flaky plaster on the wall that looked like a witch. 2. Vomiting up a living, thrashing tapeworm. 3. The eventual expansion of the sun and annihilation of all life on earth. 4. Lifting a toilet seat and finding an animate demonic head 151
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 14/09/2026I adore this film. It's like if one of Raymond Chandler's fix-ups were exaggerated to absurd levels. 111
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 11/09/2026I like that the first environmental contaminant it lists is selenium. I've been trying to cut down on sugary snacks and got big into brazil nuts, until I found out it's possible to get selenium toxicity from eating too many. 110
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Funny thing - I recently gave me and my partner a mild case of food poisoning by making cannellini bean falafel. I had no idea that some beans actually need to be cooked more thoroughly than chicken! 100
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 11/09/2026ER was pretty good a writing characters out (and occasionally back in later) in way that felt very true to that sort of professional environment. Except for plot involving that one guy who was apparently cursed by helicopters. 070
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 11/09/2026It's #letterboxdfriday so here's my #lastfourwatched A fun parody, a pretty rough sequel to a personal fav by Cronenberg, a minor movie by Cronenberg himself, and a new-to-me Bergman. 0470
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 10/09/2026So, so good. I was also really impressed weepy the lighting and use of color. Definitely a Major Bergman. 210
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 09/09/2026Tonight's film: Face to Face (Bergman, 1976) Another recommendation from @cinefeast33.bsky.social and potentially a new-to-me Bergman film. I didn't know those still existed! 161
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 04/09/2026Tonight's film: Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai (Takashi Miike, 2011). Who knows when The Samurai and the Prisoner will come to the UK, and if I'll get the chance to see in the cinema. In the meantime, Mubi has served up this one, which sounds cool. 040
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 04/09/2026#LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday I recently saw some people on film bsky talking about Army of Shadows, and I finally got round to watching it. It's an Incredible film. It might actually be the best one? 0201
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 04/09/2026Ahhh right! I did go through a phase of watching a lot of Bergman's stuff a while back, around the time he passed (on the same day as Antonioni, IIRC) but it's possible I missed this one altogether. Now I *have* to track it down. 110
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 04/09/2026I must have watched this, but it's not one I have clear memories of. Might have to dig out my Big Bergman Boxset and give it a watch. 110
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 03/09/2026Oh you're right, that's really nice. I listen to Junior a lot because it's on my running playlist, but I've really not dug into their other stuff as much as I should. 010
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 03/09/2026Yeah, I get it there too. It particularly annoys me because there doesn't seem to be a way to tell it I'm not interested. 110
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 02/09/2026I got tired of them pushing HP content so I went through and downvoted everything related to franchise, and I'm still getting the trailer before every show. I'm sure it will definitely have the same vibe as The Leftovers (which is excellent, btw). 230
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 02/09/2026It's got that trademark Filoni thing where absolutely every aspect of the story and script seems cribbed from other media. Nothing comes from real life. 000
Bryan Andrews @bryandrews.bsky.social · 02/09/2026I don't know if I've ever seen it in the original Japanese, since I heard Miyazaki himself is fine with dubs. I'd be interested to know if it significantly alters the experience. 110
