Today’s corn update: There was this strange anticipatory excitement coddled with fear when I heard the harvester outside yesterday. I can’t believe I am emotionally preparing myself for this. Maybe it’s because soybeans aren’t as engaging to watch grow, or it’s the thought of the first frost…

When I get a craving for buttered egg noodles I could almost eat just that, but I grabbed a little extra kielbasa at brunch yesterday & it seemed like a natural fit Listening to Poi Dog Pondering’s live album, Liquid White Light

Meal described with haricot very sautéed with shallots. There is a marzen which I heated the kielbasa in a little, spicy brown mustard & a container of grated Parmesan

Today’s corn update: 50 tons of corn! 1,785 bushels worth! That’s how much sweet corn is eaten every year at the Hoopeston Natl Sweetcorn Festival. & those bushel baskets ~ when art became artisan & basket weaving was a proud occupation & loading a basket with ears was life in the slow lane…

Today’s corn update: The omnipresence of maize: Potash, ethanol, zein, bioceramics, CornWall, “🎶she’s got corncobs on the soles of her shoes🎶”, that thin layer on an aspirin pill that lets it get down past the stomach enzymes (kinda like corn 😉) & don’t forget to brush your teeth!

Today’s corn update: The tallest corn plant ever grown was 83 ft, but it was grown horizontally. That same “farmer” grew a 45 ft tall plant vertically inside of a 55 ft tall greenhouse. His name was Jason, not Jack, & I don’t believe he grew pole beans, at least not “professionally”
