You don’t design APIs for yourself. "Consumer-focused API Design." That’s the name I like to give to the exercise of engaging with potential users to understand what they need. apichangelog.substack.com/p/consumer-f...

Something I'm #writing related to agentic integration solutions.
The image shows the beginning of an article I'm writing: "Should agents generate integration code once or let AI figure out how to consume APIs whenever they need to? It's true that dynamic inference at runtime can cause hallucinated payloads, unpredictable latency, and potentially higher costs. On the other hand, letting AI write its own code creates a sprawl of custom integration scripts that may be impossible to maintain in the long term."

You can choose the design of the API operation that will trigger your workflow once it’s called. You can decide what are the input parameters that you’ll accept via the API operation. You can even try to adapt the shape of the request. apichangelog.substack.com/p/exposing-w...
A screenshot of the Arazzo Visual Editor experiment, including input variables. In this example, you can see two input variables and three operations taken directly from an OpenAPI definition. The user is chaining the input variables and the operations together to form a workflow. For more context, there's a demo video from November 2025 available (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYaagA2yrdU).

If you don't know what the API Changelog newsletter is, here's a refresher: apichangelog.substack.com/about We are independent. We provide the “outside the bubble” perspective that leaders rely on to stay ahead. We’re not representing anyone’s voice except our own.

I still have the same opinion I had about a year ago. I'm not saying that an HTTP 204 with an empty body is the only response to a DELETE operation. What I'm saying is that it's the best one. apichangelog.substack.com/p/http-204-i...
Post on LinkedIn with the content: "The best response for an HTTP DELETE operation is not an HTTP 200 status code with whatever response body you come up with. It's an HTTP 204 status code with an empty body."

The information you share should make it easier for features to behave independently. To make that happen, think about sharing information about things that already happened and that you believe can be interesting to other features. brunopedro.com/2022/10/19/e...

Marketer and author Seth Godin proposes three kinds of quality: - Technical: product meeting specifications - Luxury: what sets a product apart - Creative magic: when consumers recommend a product I take it further and adapt this framework to the reality of APIs and call it "API Quality."

This is my idea of a healthy lunch. What do you think?
A vibrant lunch tray featuring a salad bowl topped with green and black olives, sliced red onions, pickled jalapeños, cubed cheese, and fresh greens. Beside the bowl sits a tall glass of bright orange and carrot juice, and a small dish containing white kefir topped with honey gelatine and raisins, all set on a light wooden table.

Do you use swagger-ui? You might find this plugin useful if, like me, you're interested in viewing changes inline. www.npmjs.com/package/@ind... #swagger #swagger-ui #API #changes #UI

Regular, ad-hoc, and SDK API consumers. Each type of consumer comes with its kind of governance. API producer governance works best with regular consumers. API implementation governance is best suited for ad-hoc consumers. API consumer governance produces the best outcome for SDK consumers.

I've been working on a Swagger UI plugin that highlights API changes inline. Instead of having to open a report with all the changes, you can see them while browsing the documentation. github.com/InditexTech/...

"Every API product starts with an idea," I wrote in the book Building an API Product, in 2024. How do you navigate the ideas that help you create API products?
