Saw a news article last night about people wearing connected biometric suits, performing mundane tasks for hours on end to "train" AI robots. In the face of the world on fire, it just reminded me of Gil Scott-Heron's "whitey on the moon," juxtaposing the space race against the civil rights movement.

As someone else recently pointed out very articulately, there is no such thing as a 'rogue' AI. Only sloppy coding and the absence of basic safeguards. It's not really a sophisticated or highly intentional "hack" if the security password sandboxing the AI is "password."

The "social contagion" thing drives me screaming angry. When I was young I had no clue trans ppl existed. I'd never met anyone trans. I saw cruel caricatures in pop culture occasionally. When I realized trans was a thing someone could be, it hit like a lightning bolt. My life felt newly possible.
