Robots Take the Runway at SF Tech Week (come & dance with them)
On Saturday, October 10, around ten robotics teams from across the San Francisco Bay Area will come together for a live demo competition, with **$5,000 in prizes** and more than **600 people already registered**. The event is organized by French entrepreneur **Mathieu Metral** for **Daidai Labs** , a new startup developing a data collection network to train AI models for robotics. Each team will have three minutes to impress the judges and the audience, followed by a robot fashion show and an after-party where attendees will be able to interact -and even dance – with the robots. It’s a high-energy way to discover some of the latest creations from the Bay Area robotics scene and meet the people building them. Seating will be allocated in advance. Robotics professionals, researchers, founders and investors can request a reserved seat by emailing mathieu@daidailabs.com and including details about their work. A sponsorship opportunity with a booth is also available for a company looking to showcase its products and gain visibility within the robotics ecosystem. > **Date:** Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 6 p.m. > **Location:** Digital Jungle, 972 Mission St, San Francisco, CA 94103 > **Free registrationhere** ## French Online Shopping with Le Marché Pop-Up ## Sunday Streets: the San Francisco streets are all yours! Ultra-wideband technology for Moon communication and ranging
The three terminals of ESA's UWB technology demonstrator. Future missions on the Moon will need reliable ways to communicate and navigate in areas beyond satellite coverage. ESA's ultra-wideband (UWB) demonstrator will test wireless communications and precise ranging between a lunar lander and rover. UWB is a short-range wireless technology that uses extremely short radio pulses to measure the time it takes signals to travel between devices. This allows the users to determine distances very accurately while also exchanging data. On the Moon, where communication and navigation services are far more limited than on Earth, UWB could enable landers, rovers and astronauts to communicate and locate one another within centimetres. By testing UWB in the lunar environment, the payload will help assess the technology’s potential to support future operations on the Moon’s surface. The demonstrator will fly on ispace Mission 3, currently planned for 2028. The payload consists of three UWB terminals: one installed on the lander and two on an ispace-Europe rover. As the rover moves across the lunar surface, the terminals will exchange signals to test both communications and ranging capabilities. In November 2024, ESA awarded Romanian company Control Data Systems a contract to develop the demonstrator; the mission is set to become the first Romanian payload on the Moon. Credits: ESA/CDS

Washington should pay attention to Ukraine's new robotic counteroffensive
Imagine heavy drones flying 15 to 20 kilometers (approximately 9.3 to 12.4 miles) deep into enemy rear positions and then deploying unmanned ground vehicles, or UGVs (unmanned ground vehicles), essentially robots, that drive even deeper into the rear. There, in areas the enemy considers relatively safe and calm, these robots can destroy Russian logistics, strike dugouts, eliminate military personnel, and sometimes even take prisoners of war. Russian soldiers can surrender directly to the robots

Writing by Hand is Good for your Brain - Here's how to do it
Because I am known to write using a fountain pen on paper, a number of people have pointed me to this post and its underlying research. I won’t rehash what is said in those sources, but the gist of it is that when you write things down by hand you’re recruiting more of your brain, which is a good thing.
