On October 4 1948, the comic strip "Pogo", by Walt Kelly, made it's debut in the New York Star Newspaper, In the Original Animals Comics, Pogo officially made his debut it the comic With Albert the Alligator. Pogo revealed that his birthday was, indeed, in October. #PogoPossum #WaltKelly

Pogo Possums first appearance in his own comic strip "Pogo" from the short lived newspaper The New York Star. Pogo became a syndicated strip in May of '49 by the Post-Hall Syndicate, and ran until 1975 (Walt Kelly passer away in 1973)

Pogo as he first appeared in Dell's Animal Comics in the story "Albert Takes the Cake", revealing that his birthday was in October.

Texas Bear (bottom right) is the one I would have said would be runner up to Bulger. If I made a bracket I would have put those two on opposite sides to see how they'd do. Cali Golden Grizzly (second in on the top) would be Bruce's choice from the State Bears. He's adorably small and round.

Since it's fat bear week, I figured I'd do a piece with all my existing bears. Here are all 18 of my current bears. Who would get your vote? #FatBearWeek

Bears galore!

- Most of these guys have been online before, three are from new sketches, one is a character I never put online before.
- The middle row of bears are all variants of the American black bear.
- Four of these bears are extinct species of bears.
- At least 15 of the 18 bears are gay (2 I'm sot sure about, the other one says he's straight {Bruce is working on him}).
- One of these bears is still unnamed, one has a name, but I never revealed it when I put it up.
- I tried to keep their sizes to scale in the piece.

Did you know Pete the Cat began as Pete the Bear? In the Alice Comedies, Pete was a bear. When Disney did Steamboat Willie, it made more sense for it to be a cat vs. mouse. Hence, he became Pete the Cat. Disney should re-brand him as Gay Pete, because Disney loves to support the gay community. ($)

My Emperor penguin character, Othello. When I first drew him, I said he was probably a used car salesman. As I kept drawing him, I realized he was more likely a stripper/exotic dancer. His parents were in the movie "Happy Feet". His grandfather was in "Marry Poppins". Dancing is in his blood.

An Emperor Penguin named Othello, mostly dressed up in his exotic dancer attire.

There may be a bit more missing from the bottom two sketches.

The ever observant (and always horny/usually nude), Detective Dick Bulger. He's based on my love of detective novels (Sherlock Holmes) and bears (actual bears), and gay bears (big hairy men). Combining all three, I came up with my Spirit Bear detective. As most know, I have a weakness for bears.

Detective Dick Bulger, my private eye spirit bear. Based on a cross between Eddie Valiant from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" (loved the shirtless tie look, and the chest hair) and Ralf König's Luigi Mackeroni from "Kondom des Grauens" or "The Killer Condom" (love Luigi's confidence, and his chest hair). Both came out at the end of the 80s and helped me realize that that, later on in my life, I was going to become both a homosexual and a furry.

Looking through my old files/sketches on my computer, I'm realizing that I've been drawing Bruce for over 30 years. He's not my oldest character I draw, but he's well up there. Here's a picture of younger Bruce in his 20 & 30s, and again in his older, 40+ dadger period. Why is he naked? Why not!

Bruce Badger, in his early 20's or 30's, as opposed to Bruce Dadger in his 40's or 50's. He's gone from a cool gray in his younger days, to a warmer gray as he's aged. He's also become a bit sturdier as he's aged.

#NationalBadgerDay #Brocktober #Brocktoberfest As of 2013, the Caucasian Badger became recognized as it's own species of badger (Meles canescens). The species broke away from Meles meles between 2.37 million years ago to 450,000 years ago. SCIENCE!!! Happy Badger Day!

$New to the badger family is the Caucasian Badger (Meles canescens). Originally thought to be a subspecies of Meles meles, it is now classified as it's own species as of 2013. It is native to western Asia and some of the Mediterranean Islands.. Only small difference in the Caucasian and European badger are in size and color, Caucasian Badgers being slightly smaller and having a yellow\brown color to it$

Welcome to Auggie. Adding the Caucasian Badger to this years National Badger piece. That makes 9 different types of badgers. Also, adding the Stink Badger back to my crew, even though science now says Stink Badgers are "false" badgers, and closer related to skunks. There are two types of stink badgers, 6 types of ferret badgers, and 3 types of hog badgers.
