T-Shaped Bridge, oil on canvas, 2011. This painting was based off an old newspaper picture from pre-WW2. The bridge was used as the target for the bombing of Hiroshima and reportedly survived the blast. #art, #oilpainting, #painting, #Aioi, #oc, #Hiroshima

At the Aquarium, 24x36 oil on canvas, 2025. A lot of time was spent posing figures in front of glass jars of water for this one. The distortion of the image changes dramatically when you barely move the figure. #art, #aquarium, #painting, #oilpainting, #sciart, #fish, #traditionalart, #museum.

Alien like figures are in at a public aquarium observing fish. There are small fish in a cylinder like tank up front and a giant fish in a big tank in the background.

Phantom Orchid, Cephalanthera austiniae. Oil on canvas, 24 x 30. I happened upon this flower before I knew it existed 20 years ago near Corvallis, Oregon and finally completed the painting today. I've only seen it a few times. #art #painting #oilpainting #botany #Orchid #sciart #traditionalart

Phantom Orchid, Cephalanthera austiniae. Oil and acrylic on canvas, 24 x 30. A white orchid inflorescence on a black background. I happened upon this flower before I knew it existed, which doesn't happen much for me anymore. I'm usually looking for specific plants that I've heard about. Being an orchid and a parasite (loosely) makes it even more interesting and exciting. I photographed this plant near Corvallis, Oregon over a decade ago and finally completed the painting today. I've only encountered it a few times. #art, #painting, #oilpainting, #botany, #Orchid, #sciart, #contemporaryart, #traditionalart.

Nerd out with your bird out. A painting about unapologetic nerdiness. #oilpainting, #sciart, #art, #painting.

An alien like figure is standing on a rock ledge looking out strange landscape. Generic pterodactyl like creatures are perched in a dead tree, and one is flying. The alien has a bird perched on its outstretched arm. Both the alien and bird have glass helmets over their heads, but the birds beak extends outside the helmet. The alien has a fish in a bag in its other hand. The alien is wearing a robe depicting alien abductions. #oilpainting #sciart #art #painting

I found my first Tasmanian orchid. These are new to me, but I think it's Pterostylis (nutans? Corrections welcome). #botany, #wildflowers, #tasmania, #orchids

Oil on canvas, 24x36. An "odd couple" of spiders are out marching/wandering when they encounter a springtail. The dragonflies are similarly motivated in same direction for whatever reason and the springtail or, something behind it, stops the march. #oilpainting, #sciart, #spider, #springtail

Oil painting shows two spiders stopped for a springtail in their path. Four dragonflies are flying overhead as if in formation. A swooping bird can barely be seen reflecting from one spiders eyes. #oilpainting, #sciart, #spider, #springtail

M.U.S.C.L.E. I had these toys as a kid and later found them on eBay. I did several drawings like this when I was procrastinating other more important things. #art, #drawing

A pencil drawing of two M.U.S.C.L.E toy wrestling figures. A toy car is in the background.

If giraffes needed to stalk prey. Pencils were my favorite for a long time, but now I prefer oil paint. #art, #pencil, #sciart

Okay, so some rough #SciArt Feed numbers. There are 1,700 subscribers. There are 1,101 contributors. Not all contributors may have subscribed, but likely most. Which means 64% of subscribers can also contribute. I think I need to do more outreach to other science feeds so they're aware of it.

Too much free time one day this summer. I took tons of these, and it's pretty cool how the fire draws straight to the lens that lit the match. So, safety first. Don't stare at matches until they ignite. The match will try to attack your face. #sciart, #art,

Two soldering aid magnifying lenses with faces drawn on them. One is holding a match positioned to light the match with sunlight. The other is positioned to be a concerned spectator.

This is my alien vacation painting. It's oil on canvas, 24x36, 2024. I might finish a couple of paintings a year, and I have about twenty or so that I like. I overthink them, so many aren’t finished. #oilpainting, #art,

Oil painting. Two somewhat stereotypical alien like beings are standing on a dock with a fish, poles, and dressed in tourist attire. Colorful rocky mountains are behind the lake and are mirrored on the lake.

This is a pencil drawing from years back. The beetles in front were from a pitfall trap, and others were from St. John's wort. #SciArt, #art, #Coleoptera

I have a trip to Tasmania planned in December. I'm very nervous and excited. I plan to wander around and look at flowers like this creature in my painting. If only, I could look at two things at once. I welcome any suggestions on where I can do this. #SciArt, #oilpainting, #botany, #Tasmania

This is a baseball painting I finished in 2020. It's the biggest canvas I've done and evolved out of years of doodles that started in other ideas. Everything is watching, lots of things change, but not enough to not recognize the game. Untitled. #oilpainting #baseball #art #painting.
