It is not. But the basic facts are the same. A Russian lab worker got infected by pneumonic plague and had caused 5 hospitals under quarantine and 12 people are quarantined and getting care in the lab.

There are. They just haven’t been in circulation since plague nowadays are not really a big problem. Same thing as we stopped vaccinating for small pox. How effective they are against this specific strain is definitely unclear as I would imagine it didn’t get much updates.

Second, Normally what you said would be correct. But this source was a lab worker at a BSL3 lab allegedly breaking a test tube containing the bacteria. It’s not your garden variety plague outbreak.

I think some people don’t get the right idea of the plague situation in Russia right. The weird part is not Russia taking hard measures quarantining potential life threatening contagious diseases, but it is leaked from a BSL3 lab, which in theory, should have multiple precautions preventing this.

I don’t think we can conclude this early if it’s bioengineered. But a disease leaking out from a BSL3 lab is definitely unusual.

It is very treatable with antibiotics with early diagnosis and droplets isn’t really highly contagious, it still needs close contact. It’s not aerosol like measles -

Idk why this is not a bigger news. Pneumonic plague is normally treatable and slow spread that should be easy to control. And BSL3 labs should have been able to control this internally at first place. This could only mean it’s an antibiotic resistant and/or highly contagious strain.
