#BlackHistoryMonth Facts Between 1869-1877, 16 Black men served in Congress (14 Reps, 2 Senators). They advocated for racial reconciliation, education and civil rights. With the failure of Reconstruction, there were no more Black lawmakers in Congress by 1901 and would not see another until 1929.
