Across BBG, asters and goldenrods are shining! ✨ Both flowers provide sustenance, breeding sites, and overwintering spaces for numerous native species of bumble bees, long- and short-tongued bees, wasps, flies, butterflies, moths, beetles, spiders, and more. Plus, they’re nice to look at!

The Cranford Rose Garden’s fall flush is arriving! 🌹 In September, a second flush of roses blooms in Cranford and the Rose Arc, alongside delightful dahlias, hibiscuses, lilies, and more. These blooms will last until mid-October.

The Tree Peony Collection that blooms in the spring near Cherry Walk was presented to the Garden in 2002 by the Japanese town of Yatsuka-Cho in Shimane Prefecture to "bring peace of mind to the people of the United States.”

25 years later, a day of remembrance for September 11. Along the edges of Cherry Esplanade are the Liberty Oaks, planted in remembrance of those who lost their lives. Each year, members of the FDNY and their friends and families gather for a memorial.

Did you know BBG has a library that’s open to the public? 📚 Regular library hours are Tuesday to Friday, 11 a.m.–5:30 p.m. by arrangement. All you need to do is email library@bbg.org ahead of your visit.

Sharing some sad news about one of BBG’s most fantastic trees. 💔 The American yellowwood located in the Plant Family Collection near the south end of Lily Pool Terrace collapsed during a recent storm. This special tree had been part of BBG’s plant collection since 1916.

Swipe for before and after! ➡️ BBG recently replaced 2.5 acres of grass near the Diane H. and Joseph S. Steinberg Visitor Center with wildflowers and fescues to reduce water use and create a habitat for pollinators.

Bloom alert! 💗 BBG’s crape-myrtles are in bloom now. Crape-myrtles have long been favorite garden plants in the South, but many cultivars can grow in NYC, too. Find them at BBG near the Robert W. Wilson Overlook and along Lily Pool Terrace.

Bloom alert! 🪷 Water lilies are blooming beautifully in Lily Pool Terrace right now. These pools at BBG are planted with nearly 100 varieties of hardy and tropical water-lilies and sacred lotuses. These plants will bloom through July into early August.

Bloom alert! 💐 The Cranford Rose Garden is hitting peak bloom. The Cranford Rose Garden is one of the broadest collections of rose species and cultivars in North America, hosting well over 5,000 individual plants. These roses will bloom through June, with some blossoming throughout summer.

Bloom alert! 💗 Tree peonies are popping at BBG right now. Located at the north end of Cherry Walk, the Tree Peony Collection at Brooklyn Botanic Garden is a rare planting of more than 300 specimens, highlighting six different colors. These blooms are marvels of color, scent, and size.

Bloom alert! 💛 BBG’s yellow magnolias are blooming. BBG is famous in horticultural circles for introducing the yellow-flowering magnolia to the world. These hybrids are often the last bloomers among the Garden’s magnolias. Most of BBG’s other magnolias are finished flowering for the year.

You have to l👀k closely (and make haste!) to see these blooms. 🔎 In early spring, before trees leaf out, native woodland wildflowers take advantage of the sunlight to bloom. These “spring ephemerals” complete their bloom cycle in just a few weeks, or even less.

CherryWatch 2026 is officially live! 🌸🚨 The first cherry blossoms have been spotted on three cherry trees in the Cherry Cultivars Area, as well as ‘Fudan-zakura’ in the Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden.
