It is absolutely nauseating. And I don't mean just physical nausea.

I hardly post here, that should change, so oh why not, since people I know and respect are doing it I'll do the "5 jobs" thing. 5 Jobs I've Had ("day job" edition) 1. Piano teacher 2. Bookstore clerk 3. Paralegal 4. Buncha freelance film/video/sound gigs. 5. Film/Fine Arts Professor

Always remember that listening to music can be the entire activity. Put on headphones. Blast it through speakers. Close your eyes and just listen. Listening to music is not a background activity. It can be the entire journey, and it's worth the time.

Living in SF, an ebike allowed a car-free commute option (publhc transit would have meant 80 minutes to commute 3.5 miles and there were massive hills on the walk route). Here in inner NE PDX, not needed - excellent transit, reasonable hills = regular ol' 7 speed bike is ok.

Brook Hinton @brookhinton.bsky.social · 15/12/2025

1. Car-free options for hilly and/or pooly planned (regular distance travel required for basic life needs) cities with inadequate public transport. 2. Same for people elsewhere who have mobility challenges that make walking and/or public transit access difficult or impossible.

Neither should be the nominee (assuming there is one).

Another case of “justified” and “wise” being at odds.

The 2A option with this regime will provoke carpet bombing of cities. This is the GOAL - made clear by Trump’s end run around the stay on deploying the Oregon NG. They want ppl to shoot back so they can go to insurrection act and full military weaponry, and are furious that it hasn’t happened yet.

Did Cass Sunstein walk into that New Yorker interview saying "Hello! I'm here for the self-immolation!" ? What an absolute train wreck. Would be comical if it didn't represent such a destructive and widespread form of denial.

Thinking maybe the US needs its internet access revoked. We're just not mature enough to handle it.

this is the fifth tine i've seen this post - it's verbatim on multiple accounts. identical responses from multiple accounts is what MAGA does. don't do it.

010

Brook Hinton @brookhinton.bsky.social · 11/09/2025

why are you copying a post by snother user word for word claiming it as your own? identical responses from multiple accounts is what MAGA does. don't do it.

legitimacy and effectiveness are not the same thing. something can ge justified while also guaranteeing a horrific and bloidy defeat that destroys the very people needing liberation.

Trump can't take over the guard until a governor denies his request to activate them at the state level for the requested purpose. I'm not a Newsom fan, but based on what he is saying here he's already denied Trump's request.

external dvd drives (super cheap!) still work with the built-in dvd player. weirdly, it's just apple's own superdrive that doesn't. Blu-ray, alas, is another story.

As difficult and massively time-consuming as it will be for many of us, it is past time to disconnect from google. gmail, drive, and office included. and ask everyone we know to do so.

i believe it's 90 days before fed agencies have to STOP reliance on the order Trump revoked. It is important to note, though, that this revokes Johnson's executive order, not a congressional act.

310

Brook Hinton @brookhinton.bsky.social · 23/01/2025

would the exact text from Trump's order help? "(i) Executive Order 11246 of September 24, 1965 (Equal Employment Opportunity), is hereby revoked." IOW employment discrimination based on race, nat'l origin, more becomes legal at fed level.

Now listening to extraordinary, bliss-inducing work by Antarctica-based artist Chris Vaisvil. literally a collaboration between Vaisvil, an Aeolian harp, and the weather. sonic medicine to help (ahem) weather these first awful days of 2025. chrisvaisvil.bandcamp.com/album/electr...

Brook Hinton @brookhinton.bsky.social · 23/11/2024

Extraordinary - enough so that I'm setting it aside to give it a much more serious listen later on. Curious about the score - is there a graphical element? How much freedom does the performer have?
