Yeah... I've always framed my sentiment as not being able to come to terms with the fact that I was brought into existence against my will.

We’ve been hearing for 20 years plus how we should just sit down and have a meal with people who think black, Latino and LGBTQ people are subhumans who must be killed. No.

Leg warmers? I knew a mom who got baby leg warmers and they worked out pretty well. My brain keeps wanting to refer to them as 'modular clothing' :/

If there are any other sickos out there like me, who enjoy learning about cults, there is a great podcast on the whole TESCREAL bundle of madness. It's called "Dystopia Now" and it is very informative and funny at the same time. www.youtube.com/@DystopiaNow...

To get out of this worsening crisis it's really going to have to start with a pretty simple but surprisingly difficult thing: seeing through the performance and framing and just realize the tech oligarchs are really, really fucking stupid.

I am SO glad that you had Timnit on the pod! I've really appreciated her work, her voice and her clarity regarding AI. (For any listeners who are interested in the cult-y beliefs of the tech bros, I recommend the 'Dystopia Now' podcast, hosted by her co-author on the TESCREAL paper.)

This was such a good episode. I was so excited to see your name in the episode title! I really appreciate your voice and your clarity about AI and the people behind it.

See, this is why I walked into the living room the other day, made my husband get up, told him to look at the kitchen, and then asked him to please tell me that I did a good job cleaning it up. He did. It felt really good even though I specifically asked for it.

Trauma clinician here. Even if those kids are released tomorrow they will never be fully released from the trauma of their incarceration. They may leave Dilley, but they will never completely leave Dilley behind them. The impact is forever. That is what our government chooses to do to children.

The source is an unreliable org that relies on quotes from overtly partisan individuals, has quoted QAnon proponents in the past and treats known prevaricators as trustworthy. In the cited article, they cite lockdowns as a cause of Threads adoption. Taiwan did not have lockdowns.

I live in Taiwan. The source listed for that article "Taiwan News" is not a trustworthy source. They use sources that are overtly partisan, known for lying, and once they quoted a QAnon proponent. Additionally, that article references lockdowns. Taiwan did not have lockdowns.

May I ask a question about structure? I *love* your designs, but they look challenging for people with large breasts. Some of them look like they'd work with a strapless bra, others don't. Do your pieces have a corset structure for support or just corset type detailing?

Thank you so much for writing this. It's one of those things that I felt instinctively was stupid. Then I saw that they were using a name from Tolkien, which they obviously have misunderstood like so many others. Now I have a mathematical reason to know it's stupid.

I am nearly 50 years old and I had to turn this movie off as soon as the sheep were in danger. I just knew that if I kept watching it would absolutely destroy me. I have never been able to watch animal movies, even with good endings. White Fang demolished me as a kid and I learned to not watch.

Very similar here! I only sweat from my hands occasionally. Like you, most of the time they just swell up in the heat, and get really small in the cold. My ring size can vary by like 1 1/2 sizes depending on how hot or cold it is/I am. I wasn't aware that this is not considered normal :/

I have two categories of media: -Can put on in background -Must make an appointment to watch with full attention. I initially thought this show was in the first category. After a few incidents of stealth comedy, I turned it off and made an appointment to watch it all next weekend.

If you're in a nazi tattoo shop, and you stay there, you are materially supporting nazi's. And it isn't like this is a case where they're providing a service that you need, and you have no other choices. Getting a nazi tattoo is A CHOICE. Keeping it is a commitment. /end

Broken Tryst @brokentryst.bsky.social · 08/06/2026
-If one nazi symbol is in the books at a tattoo parlor, it is not the only one. -The chances that you'll see a nazi symbol that you recognize are very high. -You would have to willfully ignore all of the signs that scream "Hey, this is a nazi tattoo shop!" 2/x

Broken Tryst @brokentryst.bsky.social · 08/06/2026
It really strains credulity to believe that someone could accidentally get a nazi tattoo. -You have to be in an area with a nazi presence. -You have to go to a tattoo parlor that hires nazi's. -The tattoo parlor would have to allow nazi symbols to be in their books. 1/x

One hour of sheer panic and desperation. I had to answer essay questions, draw and color the volcano, provide insights into what the character relationships were. No phone, no internet, no friends in the room, just me and my own abilities. Kids these days are missing out on that kinda thrill.

In the '80s, in 5th grade, I attended a program of workshops at the local college. There was only ONE book that I did not, could not, read. Of course I had a workshop on that one. "Which character do you identify with" I panicked, saw that 'the volcano' was a choice and was praised for my unique pov

There is SO MUCH about the US that is just punitive. If you make a mistake, it could destroy your life. A whole culture of punishment for everything. The reduction in daily stress since moving out of the US has been unimaginable.

I have a theory that a significant portion of people who recommend this book have not actually read it. It's just been mentioned so many times, and for so long, as 'a great resource' that they keep passing along the information, thinking that it's been vetted and is reliable.

Oh, I'm so glad that I could help! Really, the JW's are more of a threat to their own members than those outside, so I'm fairly confident that your risk to self is low. <3

Broken Tryst @brokentryst.bsky.social · 24/04/2026
If there's any time to try to entice people out of the JW cult, it's these past few years. I hear that attendance has been in decline since Covid. JW's can be really thrown off by genuine kindness and care from a 'worldly' person. And slipping in a talking point now and then might be real effective

Broken Tryst @brokentryst.bsky.social · 24/04/2026
From what I've seen online, their 'witnessing' work has dramatically changed from when I was in, and it's likely that an older couple are not going to be zealously recruiting, but they are still likely to try to steer conversations and look for opportunities to witness and give you literature.
110
Broken Tryst @brokentryst.bsky.social · 24/04/2026
I've been out of it for quite a while, and it has changed a lot, but it is still a cult, it is still very high control, it is very patriarchal, very hierarchical. You're likely to have a good experience with them as neighbors, if you set clear boundaries about religious discussions.
110
Broken Tryst @brokentryst.bsky.social · 24/04/2026
Again, my personal experience and broad generalization, the Black JW families exhibited more community care. The Black congregations were more likely to show care for struggling members, the white congregations I had experience with just judged people :/
110
Broken Tryst @brokentryst.bsky.social · 24/04/2026
Again, it's very high control, very insular. They will lie about organizational practices to avoid 'bringing reproach upon the organization'. Personal experience was that the white JW's could be absolutely vicious and I would fully endorse being rude to them.
110
Broken Tryst @brokentryst.bsky.social · 24/04/2026
But they are not going to have actual friendships with someone who is not a JW. JW's do not vote, ever. Most of them were prohibited from going to college, though this has become more flexible lately. Women are very much second class. They can take birth control, but cannot have an abortion.
110
Broken Tryst @brokentryst.bsky.social · 24/04/2026
You're not supposed to have any relationships with people who are not JW's. They're trained to both be afraid of 'worldly' people, and to look at any interaction with them as a chance to 'witness' (proselytize). They will be very nice, sometimes genuinely kind, polite, and mostly very honest.
110
Broken Tryst @brokentryst.bsky.social · 24/04/2026
It's a global org, so there are differences in some policies from country to country. And even in the U.S. there is regional variance for how strictly some policies are enforced, but the major doctrines are pretty consistently enforced.
110
Broken Tryst @brokentryst.bsky.social · 23/04/2026
It is absolutely a cult with very high control practices. JW's are fully indoctrinated that everyone who is not a JW is 'worldly' and under the influence of satan. A major crack in my belief structure was when a 'worldly' person showed me genuine care and concern.
110
Broken Tryst @brokentryst.bsky.social · 23/04/2026
My usual advice when dealing with JW's is basically 2 things: 1. You can tell them that you absolutely do not want them to come to your door, or talk about religion. 2. If you don't mind talking with them, it basically requires *extreme* empathy and kindness.
