Just about two weeks until I have to pay rent again. I still have not found a job and my health has been really bad. But! I'm hopeful about this upcoming week for job hunting. I'm feeling very determined.

I'm still raising rent and it's getting down to the wire, but also if I can raise $50, I have a deal to buy $100 worth of groceries for that price, which would help me out a lot

This is Christopher Priest, one of the old school writers of Black Panther (1990s) & Marvel's 1st black editor, discussing his time/interactions with Larry Hama -- the guy who created the classic comics version of G.I. JOE. Hindsight of my own experiences makes this incredibly important to me.

First day on the job, Larry took me to lunch to explain the New Deal to me. Before his arrival, I had been paid twenty-five dollars a month (yes, a month) to be Paul Laiken's assistant on CRAZY. Larry was incensed that Marvel had allowed this, and immediately gave me a raise to a whopping $400 per month, which, for a nineteen year-old, was a good deal. Larry later worked to get me on staff (I was, officially, a freelancer), and soon I was making an actual salary, with benefits and so forth.
At the restaurant, as we waited for an open table, a lovely blonde and her lunch companion stepped past us, and the host appeared and began to seat them. Hama objected, politely— we were here first, and the host quickly sat us instead.
Hama sat at the table, removed his mirrored aviators, and said, *Jim— never let the white man tako advantage of you." And, I guess, that's when it hit me: Larry was Japanese American. A guy many people sidled up to and spoke loudly and slowly, hoping he could understa

Hey, so we got a trojan horse ag.ny.gov/press-releas...

Text passage reading:

Valve’s loot box model can be especially harmful to children. Attorney General James asserts that young users with limited funds can be enticed to start gambling through loot boxes in the hopes of obtaining a virtual item that they believe will enhance their status in the games’ virtual worlds. Research has shown that children who are introduced to gambling are four times more likely to develop a gambling problem later in life than those who are not. (highlighted in screenshot) In addition, although this case is about illegal gambling, it is important to note that Valve’s promotion of games that glorify violence and guns helps fuel the dangerous epidemic of gun violence, particularly among young gamers who can become numbed to grave violence before their brains are fully developed. (end of highlighting)

I know a lot of you have already heard or read about BDS Movement's call against Microsoft, and felt weird and bad about it all, but decided to move forward as normal because of some degree of ambiguity. "What service is Microsoft providing?" Here it is, clear as day. A direct line to death.

According to three Unit 8200 sources, the cloud-based storage platform has facilitated the preparation of deadly airstrikes and has shaped military operations in Gaza and the West Bank.

Thanks to the control it exerts over Palestinian telecommunications infrastructure, Israel has long intercepted phone calls in the occupied territories. But the indiscriminate new system allows intelligence officers to play back the content of cellular calls made by Palestinians, capturing the conversations of a much larger pool of ordinary civilians.

My review for Trails Through Daybreak II is up at @pastemagazine.bsky.social. It's a game that might frustrate those looking for The Next Big Overarching Story Beat in the long-running series, but it excels at character work and dragging the past into the present to tie up loose narrative ends
