Road conditions throughout the area are becoming hazardous, and I-90 is currently at a standstill in areas.

Emergency crews have responded to multiple motor vehicle accidents throughout the day. Please avoid highway travel if at all possible and allow road crews and emergency responders the space they need to work safely.

If you must travel, slow down, increase your following distance, and use extreme caution.

Please stay safe and stay off the roads if you don't need to be out.

Last, (ELCA) Lutheranism sees government as part of the daily bread god provides for us but it’s not just on god to provide good governance. Sin is present in everything but we’re not slaves to it and can work for the good of our neighbour (and everyone is our neighbour)
From the ELCA 2020 statement on government and civil society:

- Everyone has a responsibility to make government function well and engage in civic duty

God's two ways of governing

- summary described in "Luther's works” vol13 p197
- also in 1523 treatise "Temporal authority: To what extent should it be obeyed?”
→section 1, “Luther’s Works” vol 45

- The right hand compels us to work in love and justice

- Gods left hand works through people to provide justice for all

- Both types are necessary and provide critical insights for a Christian understanding of God’s work in human society

- Theological use of the law
→ love of god and neighbour is paramount

Also bc I’m literally writing a sermon on it right now, here’s one thing the ELCA says about sin present in structures and our job to work with and against those structures (full text in the alt text)
This prophetic role includes "the obligation to name and denounce the idols before which people bow, to identify the power of sin present in social structures, and to advocate in hope with poor and powerless people.* In its ordination rites, this church has consistently affirmed the expectation "to give faithful witness in the world through word and deed and "to serve the needy, care for the sick, comfort the distressedi Though these expectations are made explicit for rostered ministers, they are part of this church's calling shared by all, irrespective of particular offices and roles within the church.

This role of holding civic leaders accountable applies to both religious and secular institutions when they abuse or overreach their authority. This church says, with Martin Luther, that "to rebuke* those in authority "through God's Word spoken publicly, boldly and honestly" is "not seditious" but "a praiseworthy, noble, and... particularly great service to God."

Efforts toward justice-seeking, advocacy, social change, and addressing all forms of civic life require care, patience, and wise distinctions. Civic participation in these forms may be controversial, and worshiping communities need to take time to discern and identify common parameters for action. Each service ministry, advocacy effort, or social change ministry warrants careful selection.

Theologically it is important to recognize that the exertion of social power when addressing or challenging civic life is part of this church's work under the left hand of God. Though the church's message of the gospel is sure, we cannot know what the outcomes of exerting social power in public actions will be. We must consistently evaluate whether neighbor justice, especially for the marginalized, is being served by the prophetic presence of this church.

Hooting hollering howling (via @briankaylor.bsky.social )
"Pete Hegseth needs to know that, actually, Isaiah is answering the call to confront abusive power in his own context - words that are particularly apt in a moment like this. Isaiah challenges corruption. Isaiah challenges government that marginalizes the poor, the widows, and the orphans," Warnock explained. "Isaiah challenges the powers that be within his own context. Pete Hegseth should read the first chapter of the Book of Isaiah, where the prophet says,Your princes' - which means those who are in power - 'Your princes are companions with thieves!"

"So as the prophet deals with public corruption, as he deals with those who would crush the poor, there's a valuable lesson in that for the so-called 'secretary of war;'"Warnock added. "I don't think he hears it because he's focused on wrapping up power in sacred clothes. Faith, when it is authentic, stands on the margins, stands with the weak, recognizes that all of us are children of the living God. It calls us into a new covenant with God and with each
other. I'm standing with Isaiah. I'm standing in that grand
prophetic tradition, which we need so badly during this moral moment in America. Where do you stand?"

I WILL SEE YOU IN HELL MOTHERFUCKER
As Hannah Whitall Smith had found, however, the victorious life could be difficult to sustain. In the face of disappointments, some followed Smith's lead and defined happiness itself as an act of the will. Victory had nothing to do with feelings, Trumbull attested. It was about "facing toward God's facts." Some blamed believers themselves; since God could not fail, lingering unbelief must be the cause. Like earlier iterations of holiness theology, Keswick theology was rife with contradictions. Celebrating agency, it required surrender. Promising self-fulfillment, it demanded sacrifice. Granting peace, it stirred anxiety when blessings failed to materialize. Requiring continual surrender and vigilant discipline, it fueled demand for devotional materials to assist in these efforts. Much like modern advertising and the New Thought-inspired self-help industry, Victorious Life theology made promises it could not keep and responded to disappointment with more of the same.

Dispensationalism, inerrancy, and Keswick holiness theology provided the theological foundations of modern fundamental-ism, and each served to restrict the authority of Christian women.
In contrast to holiness proponents like Phoebe Palmer and Hannah Whitall Smith, inerrantists viewed Paul's restrictions against female preaching as "precise, absolute, and all-inclusive." (They also interpreted the order of creation-Adam before Eve-as evidence of women's subordination.) Dispensationalists relegated women's prophesy to a future dispensation; until then, God placed women

Charles G Trumbull I will see you in hell
Moody helped popularize this more constrained version of holiness theology in the United States. After his death in 1899, the networks he cultivated continued to promote the teachings. After converting to of the popular Sunday School Times, he promoted Keswick theology in the pages of his paper and sponsored Victorious Life Testimony filled with accounts of "defeated Christians discovering the secret and securing instant spiritual victory. (Promising freedom from sin, worry, and fear, Victorious Life preachers sounded much like salesmen pitching miraculous products.) Like Hannah Smith's secret, Trumbull's Victorious Life began with an act of the will- a surrendering of self, of "every sin, known and unknown." Repentance entailed a simple acknowledgment of past errors; the willful desire to be happy, suc-cessful, and whole sufficed. Victory came by faith, but "faith must be fedịỊand to that end, Trumbull recommended daily devotional time. God's power produced internal revitalization and evangelism; witnessing was a condition for maintaining union with Christ and thus access to the Victorious Life. Foreign missions, youth outreach con-ferences, and Christian publishing all served this purpose, and every convert became an evangelist.

Moody Bible Institute, Wheaton College, Dallas Theological Sem-inary, Biola University, and Prairie Bible Institute in Alberta, Can-ada, became hubs of the North American Keswick network. Popular revivalist songs such as Fanny Crosby's "None of Self and All of Thee" and Frances Havergal's "Take My Life and Let It Be" led worshippers through consecration and surrender; "Trust and Obey," a song inspired by Moody's preaching, taught that the only way "to be happy in Jesus® was to trust and obey. Trumbull's phrase "let go, and let God” became a common refrain among Christians, and holiness teachings filled popular devotional literature. For many, Victorious Life theology was quickly becoming synonymous with "true Christianity.”
