Beaches were littered with vegetables and debris. As posted by @bhseafrontteam, be careful handling any waste in clean-up efforts; please dispose of waste in the large black bins along the seafront, including produce. #citizenscience #brightonandhove #seaswimming #watersports #seaswim

The post-surf beach cleanup challenge
Your mission - should you choose to accept it - is to pick up two pieces of plastic from the sand after each surf session as you walk up the beach.

Ahead of International Coastal Cleanup Day 2025 (September 20) Ocean Conservancy reports that in 2024, 9 of the 10 most collected items globally were plastic. Caribbean has the dubious distinction of collecting the most plastic bottles. Jamaica Environment Trust calls for a serious "systemic fix."

Ahead of International Coastal Cleanup Day, the burden of plastic pollution remains heavy
Plastic is everywhere. The overwhelming presence of plastic in our lives forms one of several daunting challenges for our environment. One recent, very depressing development (or I would describe it as a non-event) was the failure last month of the already faltering United Nations talks regarding a Plastics Treaty. While this was a discussion among countries, who are clearly divided on the issue, I cannot also help feeling that the private sector has to step up to the plate - especially the producers of fossil fuels.
