Being Possitopian about the future in an Earth Crisis is about developing capacities to shift position; entertain & combine many possible scenarios. That also increases empathy for people with dogmatic or narrow views, reflecting fear & social contagion, and focused certainty as a coping strategy.

You can learn at your own pace tapping into a wealth of resources — learning units, audio & videos, & graphic tools. There are 8 modules, with two to come, organised around a framework of 5 elements, for moving people from emotional reaction to deeper understanding & imaginative action.

Earth Talk aims to create Earth Literacy in society getting more people activated to respond to the Earth Crisis. It does this by developing your capacity to engage & guide people to discover what’s wrong, imagine possible futures, and take action for the planet. Be part of a community of practice.

Are you starting to have more environmental chats but finding them a struggle? Do you want to include the Earth Crisis in how you engage with people & do your work? Want more creative & effective methods? I've worked really hard for 4 years to create the Earth Talk community of practice.

Now that all the parks & lawns are yellow and dusty, can we at last fall out of love with flat-mown grass? Can we have more meadowy, weedy, bushy, water-absorbing & drought-resistant parks and gardens please?

I’d love to get funding to catalogue and research the dataset. It’s just gathered from social sharing. It’s obvious that normalising everyday ecocide is a mix of active promotion by the powerholders of plantation capitalism, emergent cultural discourse & social contagion (entangled with racism).

Bridget McKenzie @bridgetmck.bsky.social · 21/05/2026
I totally agree. I didn’t mean to suggest it is an accident of attention. I’ve been capturing 100s of examples of Everyday Ecocide for 10 years and looking at the structures and mindsets behind them.

However, there is much evidence of human societies having long-term thinking, cathedral thinking, ancestor respect, and stewarding ecosystems over generations. So, I wonder if it’s a strong feature of nature-connected people but a weak feature of modern urban industrial humans.

The limited framing does not afford safety and support to visible and vocal cultural activists, particularly people with characteristics that are under attack at a time of rising far-right and ecocidal agendas. Read more in the report...and do let me know what you think.

The framing of Cultural Environmental Responsibility could expand to: - Shifting the framing of human-nature relations - Collaborating for community safety and resilience - Inspiring the imagination of alternative life-ways.

Bridget McKenzie @bridgetmck.bsky.social · 03/03/2026
Barriers & limited frames include: - A global backlash vs eco action - Inadequate public resources to respond to impacts. - Cultural sector entanglement with harmful bodies - Sector underfunding, funds too siloed & short-term - A lack of diversity, + precarity for artists & low-paid workers.

Also needed is advocacy for the new roles of Culture, its value lying, for example, in an integration of Inner and Outer Resilience (although it's often understood to be valuable mainly for Inner Work or Inner Resilience).

As everywhere, the UK faces significant risks due to rapid Global Heating, as well as unpredictable reactions by power-holders. Resilience and adaptation to these impacts have not been prioritised in the UK in most sectors. In turn, the UK’s Cultural sector fails to demonstrate adequate alertness.

Bridget McKenzie @bridgetmck.bsky.social · 03/03/2026
By the Earth Crisis, I mean ecological overshoot and social shortfall. Human interdependence with Earth systems is overlooked. Indeed, environmental decisions are systemic decisions on every topic beyond the most trivial.

It’s like kicking open a vast termites nest except that to use an ecological metaphor feels in bad taste. Maybe like exploring a dictator’s palace after liberation, while the world is still captured by his cronies. It exposes the sufferings of violent patriarchy, racism, power grabbing & ecocide.

I keep seeing people diminish Epstein, like “we’re focusing on a single sex offender but it’s a distraction.” He trafficked 1000+, ran a kompromat factory likely trading to Israel & Russia. It’s a lens onto a conspiracy of extreme colonisation of bodies & lands with devastating impacts on all life.

Totally agree. This is something @mpwatchnesh.bsky.social could McCarthy & other relevant MPs. The last bit ‘we’re already doing this’ implies messaging by stealth to consumers not strategic engagement with civil agencies/local govt/business. It treats it like tooth-brushing or speed limit driving.
