Bríd-Áine Parnell @bridainep.bsky.social · 23/04/2026Thanks so much! So as far as I understand, the name Shane came from the British pronunciation of Seán, and John was understood to be the translation of Seán. But the Irish word séan, which would be pronounced "shane", isn't a name at all! It's the Irish for omen or deny. 020
Bríd-Áine Parnell @bridainep.bsky.social · 29/10/2025I've been quoted in the media! Which as an ex-journo is kinda weird. But also great, because it's an article on misogyny and AI and it's so important to be talking about this. www.thepersistent.com/how-ai-fuels...thepersistent.com'Don't Pretend You Don't Love It'The Dark, Misogynistic Underside of AI. 020

Bríd-Áine Parnell @bridainep.bsky.social · 19/12/2024New UK gov consultation on copyright and AI, getting surprisingly little attention? One option is a total exemption to copyright for AI training. Another proposes an exception that still allows creatives to "control the use of their content". How would that work?!gov.ukUK consults on proposals to give creative industries and AI developers clarity over copyright lawsThis consultation seeks views on how the government can ensure the UK’s legal framework for AI and copyright supports the UK creative industries and AI sector together. 010

Bríd-Áine Parnell @bridainep.bsky.social · 06/12/2024I entirely agree that trusting GenAI without double checking is crazy, but some of these mistakes come from real (if not very well-known) oulets. The lesson is the same as it was before ChatGPT, don't trust what you read on the internet, always look for corroboration from trusted sources. 021
Bríd-Áine Parnell @bridainep.bsky.social · 04/12/2024So it's a tiny bit off-piste, but I've been immersed in a group project to design a "robotic artifact" (ours is a classroom engagement system of bees and a hive). I've learned to code an Arduino from scratch and had a whistle-stop tour of physical design theory, and it's been kind of amazing! 140
