Brian Wingbermuehle @brianwinger.bsky.social · 29/08/2026July 27th vs August 28th. The giant corpse flower grows 2-4 inches per day when it is breaking dormancy. This started as a tiny seedling about 8 inches tall and the stem was maybe as thick as a pencil. It will go dormant in late winter or early spring and usually wakes up for me in June or July. 020
Brian Wingbermuehle @brianwinger.bsky.social · 06/11/2025I don’t open Facebook often because meta is such an abhorrent corporation— but to that point, when I do open it, it’s full of AI generated conservative propaganda slop. These are suggested to me in my feed I did not seek a single one out or even go to the reels section this was in my feed. 030
Brian Wingbermuehle @brianwinger.bsky.social · 06/10/2025Critically endangered and one of the few fragrant hibiscus species— Hibiscus arnottianus subsp. immaculatus(or kokiʻo keʻokeʻo in Hawaiian) is a total stunner and blooming for the first time in my collection(maybe 3+ years?). It’s only found on the island of Molokai. 150

Brian Wingbermuehle @brianwinger.bsky.social · 01/07/2025This undescribed species of Anubias is about to bloom! It was collected in Cameroon in 2009. When I got my hands on it from one of the people on the expedition— he told me I was the first person he had given a piece to and that the only other people growing it were on that trip. Truly one of a kind. 000
Brian Wingbermuehle @brianwinger.bsky.social · 28/05/2025I was going door to door this morning in the Ville as part of Action’s the People’s Response. One man I spoke to pulled his neighbor and his dog from his collapsed home after the EF3 tornado made a direct hit on this block. He also went out into the storm and grabbed two neighbor girls to shelter. 130

Brian Wingbermuehle @brianwinger.bsky.social · 21/01/2025Just rewatched the rerelease of The Substance and the straight man in my row was laughing as elizasue broke down and it is just such a pointed reminder that girls/gays/theys are conditioned about their bodies in a fundamentally different way that I wasn’t prepared for tonight. 020

Brian Wingbermuehle @brianwinger.bsky.social · 19/11/2024Rhododendron nieuwenhuisii (pronounced New-house-ee-eye) is a tropical relative of our garden rhododendrons from Borneo.
