Now that he and his family are fully in the defense contract game, and involved in myriad aligned grift schemes, a giant defense budget he controls seems an obvious and easy mark.

Tomorrow they’re holding a funeral in Springfield for the Haitian college kid Pierre Damas Bel who killed himself. On the same day in nearby Dayton Ohio suburb President trump will be there holding a fun little rally, not far from the body of the student his policies appear to have, you know, killed

Congress gets the headlines, but if you want to know where the fight against authoritarianism will actually be won, look down the ballot. States and local jurisdictions are the real bulwark. Know your ballot before Nov. 3.

Yes. Don't call them "courts" or "judges." These are DOJ employees, not an independent Article III branch, just Trump administration workers - appointed by and answerable to Todd Blanche. Dignifying these inhumane proceedings with those words is a propaganda play.

Screenshot of a chat assistant on America.gov. The user asks, "Was Iranian government within two weeks of having a functional nuclear weapon in February 2026?" The answer begins: "No. Public U.S. and IAEA assessments available for that period do not state that Iran was within two weeks of a functional nuclear weapon in February 2026."

Perhaps a question that a senate committee should get some military and intelligence official to testify on under oath.

But even some longtime red areas in the state have become more purple recently. Glusenkamp Perez flipped the 3rd CD after 12 years of GOP representation. A lot of Dems are troubled by her, but she won with a D next to her name in what had been a solid red district for over a decade.

Also, it changing statewide: the advisory votes ended in 2023, and in March the Legislature passed a 9.9% tax on income over $1M, after voters rejected 7 of 8 income tax measures. I-645 puts repeal of that to the whole state Nov 3rd, and King County can't carry it alone. So it will be interesting!

Totally get it, but I'd note the anti-tax streak is mostly statewide. Seattle and King County vote for new taxes all the time: last year alone, an expanded education levy, B&O changes, and an EMS levy renewal. The anti-tax assessor candidate drew under 20% in the primary.

Foxcurran is a seasoned expert, while Scarimbolo has no appraisal background, and is riding a wave of frustration with rising valuations.

The choice is Rob Foxcurran, a Seattle city appraiser endorsed by both The Seattle Times and local progressive weekly, The Stranger. He pitches appraisal expertise. Dominique Scarimbolo is a local brewery owner who opposes property taxes, though the assessor doesn't set rates.

King County is home to Amazon, Microsoft, Expedia, Zillow, F5, Boeing, and other big tech. Plus more than 2 million people, making it one of the most populous counties in the U.S. Home prices are among the nation's highest (median home is $1M+), so how property gets valued here carries real stakes.

The incumbent, John Wilson, faced allegations that he repeatedly stalked his ex-partner and violated a restraining order. The charges were later dropped, but he refused calls to resign, including from his own chief deputy. He's not running again. This is the first wise open election in a decade.

And it's not just reporters and arches. The ballroom, wind farms, Guard deployments, tariffs. A senior White House official told Reuters it's deliberate: security claims help Trump win when his agenda hits legal roadblocks.

You know what would be good and appropriate? If some member of Congress on one of the Armed Services committees had a general testify under oath that the military “strongly” requested this.

When we talk about AI as a destructive force, it's important to not anthropomorphize it, and shift the threat to some inanimate tool. It's people who are at the center of controlling AI – the billionaires and regulators. If there is going to be killing, it's because of people making bad decisions.

Each day I think we have to have reached peak stupid for the Trump regime – and then we have things like this. The very idea that the FBI Director would be sitting in front of a senate panel, defending embezzlement and bestiality, would be unfathomable at any other time in history. But, here we are.
010
Brian White @brianwhite.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
I would also add that those who are using the “AI will kill us all” language, are anthropomorphising the technology, which lends itself to regarding the people who control it as somehow helpless observers. It’s not the AI we should be concerned about. It’s the people. Focus on the decision makers.

These statements have Lipstick Killer vibes.
The crime scene photo from the William Heirens case—the December 1945 murder of Frances Brown in Chicago, where the message "For heavens sake catch me before I kill more I cannot control myself" was written in lipstick on the wall. It's the origin of the "Lipstick Killer" nickname.

If tariffs "pay" for the checks, the checks are just tax refunds, since tariffs are not magic, external revenue – they are a tax Americans pay. Worse: these were unnecessary taxes to begin with. It's like getting robbed, then the thief hands back a cut and expects a thank-you.

Games are inherently human. The whole point is the thrill, and the question of the outcome. If your opponent can always win, it’s no longer a game. At that point, it’s just a job. And at least your employer pays you for that.

Tangentially, this sort of thing makes me think it is worth tempering the usual frustration with America's two-party system by looking at Israel. Their low electoral threshold and coalition math can let small parties like Otzma Yehudit gain leverage far beyond what their actual support may be.

I agree that approach makes sense. Be vague on purpose, decided case by case. I guess I’d just say so. “We won’t define dogpiling; we’ll judge it as we go” is honest and defensible. So don’t cite guidelines that don’t contain the word. Own the discretion instead of dressing it up as a rule.
000
Brian White @brianwhite.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
I think the overall intent is probably good. But referencing a very specific behavior without defining what exactly their interpretation of that behavior is, seems like a real miss.
010
Brian White @brianwhite.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
Bluesky says dogpiling violates the Community Guidelines, but unless I’m missing something, the word isn’t anywhere in them. So they’re enforcing against a term they aren’t bothering to define. Which I suppose, conveniently means it can mean whatever they decide it means, whenever they decide it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

You know, I kinda think that if Trump wants to fully brand this utter debacle – a military and foreign policy failure of epic proportions – he should go for it. I suspect it would also greatly incentivize Iran to really double down. 🙄
A social media post from Donald Trump, posted on September 2, 2026: “Now that we have it under U.S.A. control, should we change the name Hormuz Strait to TRUMP STRAIT??? Like America itself, it would be "hotter" than ever before! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP”

I have. There is certainly strain on troops. But I’ve seen zero evidence there is anything close to widespread structural mutiny brewing. The evidence that both civilian and military leadership are supporting and executing lawless orders, and getting forces on the ground to carry them out is clear.

It seems to me that we don’t have a military that is about to break ranks. The problem we have is a military for which there is virtually no act or order by this president that could push them to take a stand for the rule of law.

They are executing missions around the world that are plausible war crimes, with near-zero internal pushback. They are openly patrolling the streets of American cities, acting as the kind of intimidation force we’ve historically seen in fascist regimes.
