Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 21hYikes…. what a way to tell viewers “uh, sorry, you won’t be able to see this in cinemas because not a single cinema was interested, but if you search online maybe you’ll find it on Tubi or some other obscure streaming service” 🤷♂️ 000
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Baby steps, but I’m trying to find ways to return to the Web, and away from social media. When I say Web I mean RSS feeds as the fuel for discovery, not noisy random social media feeds. And by RSS I mean I’m rediscovering how FANTASTIC @netnewswire.com is. Thank you @inessential.com. 020
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Either Benioff told the pilot, “let’s fly around the entire world first and THEN land in Kona” of somebody messed up on the data 🤷♂️ 000
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 05/10/2026It really is astounding how widespread the use of “core tenants” is… it’s insane 😂 (The truly scary thing? I bet there are Bluesky readers reading this right now, wondering “What’s wrong with ‘core tenants’?”) 😱 000
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Here’s a book you probably haven’t heard of. I can’t recommend it highly enough—not only for its extensive research and insights into late-1800s Hawaii, but as example of American history rhyming and REPEATING. The nonstop racism and LYING by American oligarchs + media is all there 140 years ago. 030
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 03/10/2026EV car show at the Plaza in downtown Santa Fe today. My, have times changed. In years past the event would be full of Teslas, with a couple other makes here and there. Today, I counted two Teslas. I guess if you wanna learn what’s up with Tesla these days you’re better off at a Nazi rally 🤷♂️ 111
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 03/10/2026I order quickly then see that the lady taking orders is touching the cash register screen and handling raw cash, but is also making the food orders WITH THE SAME GLOVES. 👀👀 The adventures of fast food, I tell ya. 😱 🤷♂️ 000
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Picked up a submarine sandwich at a sub shop today and the guy ahead of me in line was wearing pants with the pricetag thingie still stapled to the pants. He wanted to order ten giant 16” submarines, each completely different, but couldn’t make up his mind, so he let me go ahead of him… 😎 100
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Like some kind of unfunny, wretched, cringey, never-aired, never-edited-down SNL short, THE HISTORY OF CONCRETE was a 100-min ordeal. Well, ok, 70-min, when I walked out after probably the 3rd held-too-long shot of a filthy New York toilet. The film was making me dislike NY even more. Bleh. 🤮🤷♂️ 000
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 30/09/2026The author of this piece has apparently never seen STAR WARS. If you get a detail wrong like this in your opening graf, well… 🤷♂️ 020
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Well, I’d love to see it but… For all intents and purposes it’s being “buried” by being sent out to Peacock pasture. 000
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 28/09/2026@alexgibneyfilm.bsky.social According to IMDB, this is the full “cast” of the documentary MUSK. I truly hope this is an incomplete list. Kara? Cory? Why tech talking heads? What are *they* doing here? A nearly 4hr movie with no Tesla employees, owners interviewed? No VCs, ex-board members? 🤷♂️ 000
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Poor little Apple just became a FIVE-TRILLION-DOLLAR company. Maybe now they can afford to fix their completely broken iOS Music app. [Who am I kidding, being unable to play MP3s that you OWN is a FEATURE to this company, not a bug…🤷♂️] 000
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 28/09/2026A rare rainbow in the north-north-west this morning. 000
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Sometimes I wonder if CNN sells one or more slots in its “cnnmoney premarket” stock list to loser penny stock companies lookin’ for a, er, boost 000
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 27/09/2026BoxOfficeMojo is always a little slow with the data, but still... it they say it just opened in the US on Friday and did $4.3M. And yeah, I never heard of it either. 110
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Fewer than 1000 people in the US, with a population of over 340 million, have paid to see this film in a cinema. That’s 0.000247% of the population. Pretty good flick. I dare ya to defy the odds and go see it: THE OLDEST PERSON IN THE WORLD. 032
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Wait—animal-style *fries*? Since In-n-Out refuses to open any stores in New Mexico (one can only guess why), the nearest In-n-Outs are all over 400+ miles away and so months, even years go by between visits—but I never heard of animal-style *fries*. Burgers, sure, but fries? Must investigate! 😎 000
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Molly I’ve so far listened to over 2/3 of your excellent, wonderfully-told episodes of the WLG podcast, and having recently finished reading Gil’s excellent NERD REICH, I keep wondering at what point these two threads merge to become Weird Little Nerds? 😎 @socialistdogmom.bsky.social @gilduran.com 010
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 26/09/2026TIL that not a single pair of Meta‘s creepy, privacy-invading AI spy-glasses has sold at Walmart’s eyewear department here in Santa Fe, but that customers are buying them at Walmarts in Albuquerque. 011
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 25/09/2026What IS it about movies featuring humans and dogs as main characters, where every five minutes there must be yet another scene of the dog slobbering its tongue all over the face and mouth of the human? Or show the human drinking from a water bottle the dog *just* licked? HEART OF THE BEAST, man. 🤷♂️ 100
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Theory: These days, Apple uses its Mac and iOS operating system software updates as a gambit by which the company has a chance to once again re-set all the AI, iCloud, Siri, and other mothership settings back to whatever default states most benefit Apple, overriding users' wishes. 010
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 22/09/2026@gilduran.com only seems to acknowledge a NERD REICH post if you include the book cover so maybe this will help. 😎 Sure would love to get a response to the question posted above about climate vs nerd reich.... Just finished your book yesterday, loved it, much food for thought. 000
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Almost had me fooled there, fake-Paypal scammers, but, oops, your fake mailing address generator-script seems to have broken, lol 😂 000
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 19/09/2026I mean, does *anyone* take Netflix’s recommendations seriously? A random-number generator written in BASIC on an Apple II could have come up with these suggestions. But I fear Netflix required a data center the size of Delaware, powered by the nukes at Three Mile Island. Blues Brothers? Pompeii?! 020
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 18/09/2026THE WEIGHT was good. Worth seeing. A rare action-adventure that feels like SORCEROR meets DELIVERANCE. It’s easy to imagine Eastwood or McQueen in Hawke’s role if this were a 70s film. Good directing, good script (couple of nice red herrings), good cast, good lensing. Good flick! 000
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 17/09/2026RESIDENT EVIL is a misnomer. RAMPANT STUPIDITY would be a better title. If there’s one thing I can’t stand is fumbling, incompetent protagonists. This is based on a VIDEO game? (Never played.) It’s a remake of other R.E. movies?! (Never seen.) Zach Cregger’s worst movie yet, by far. Pure garbage. 110
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 15/09/2026As will New Mexico's beloved oil and gas industry and state dependence on their money. 000
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 15/09/2026So let me get this straight: In order for AI to work, and in order to justify 2000 Bluffdales‘ worth of data centers, every human on the planet, and ALL their personal info MUST be hoovered up into the AI maw. Gates is pledging $1B to grab people living outside AI’s grasp. For “equality.” Riight.😵💫 000
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 12/09/2026$4.85 TRILLION company so intent on telling its own customers to f*ck off if they dare try to own their own music rather than stream it, it refuses to fix such a wide swath of bugs on iPhone and in MacOS that it's now virtually impossible to even add music or a playlist to a phone, or do much else 🤬 000
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Seen this morning on the back of a pickup truck in Santa Fe. (Bigger question: would Jesus really drive a gas-guzzler with a planet-killing exhaust pipe like that?) 000
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 12/09/2026AMERICAN DOCTOR - powerful, devastating, infuriating documentary on the genocide of Gaza. Find a screening. Go. See it. 000
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Sometimes a paywall is a blessing, so you’re spared having to read how dreck like “reality tv” would ever be worth understanding or appreciating. 000
Brian Dear @brianstorms.bsky.social · 10/09/2026HOPE is the wildest, most insane, action-packed, exciting, thrilling, bonkers movie I have seen in A LONG TIME. Bigger than JAWS + CLOSE ENCOUNTERS + PREDATOR + JURASSIC PARK and very very Spielbergian. LOVED IT. SEE IT. 010
