“Local stores next to the protected bike-lane have seen a 49% increase in sales, compared to an average of 3% for Manhattan as a whole.” (Among MANY other public benefits.) Want To Make More Money? Build A Business On A Bike Lane. #CityMakingMath via @fastcompany.com #BikeLanesMeanBusiness

Want To Make Money? Build A Business On A Bike Lane
Research from New York City notes that newly installed protected bike lanes do more than keep bikers safe--they raise the income of the stores they are in front of.

Can't understand how anyone would think a pile of bytes on a disk is conscious. The models are just weights that require other software for inference.

It's also because economies are petroleum based and would shrink if fissile fuel consumption declines.

If someone is concerned about the risk to pedestrians from e-bikes, e-motos, and scooters, but doesn't support taking away space from cars to build safer micro-mobility infrastructure then I would question their commitment to safety

I just have a hard time accepting unsubstantiated premises. Data centers don't have to be reconstructed to swap out GPUs. GPUs can have a useful life much longer than 3 years. The numbers are mind boggling. No question about that.

City cars! Imagine pedestrian streets and school streets being in the majority, and the roads that still allow cars limit them to space efficient and less lethal models like these 🤩

@bodegacats.bsky.social adjacent #bikeShopCats #cycling One of my favorites from my stock photography days [Stocksy: www.stocksy.com/photo/48767/... ]
An orange tabby cat sits upright on a textured floor mat in a bike shop, looking off to the right. Behind him, out of focus, a mechanic in a black shirt and shorts works on a bicycle wheel on a workbench lined with bins and parts.

@theverge.com @reckless.bsky.social Mind blown by the federal ban on Fable 5. Experienced it live Friday night. The implications are massive: Fable 5 was the leading edge of frontier models. Does the halt potentially mean progress and competition on new LLMs stops? Need The Verge's PoV

When you rebuild it, would be fun to have a mode where people pick the better of two pelicans or rank five, (without knowing the model) and then produce a model ranking from the aggregated rankings

I don't have a 3-D printer, but I do have woodworking tools. Made a similar concept, but mine uses a 3 x 3 grid of those same fans in a cube form factor. Just used a whole saw to cut out the fan holes and mount them flush underneath the top. Looks spiffy, very quiet and moves a lot of air!

It's an interesting problem, what's a good measure the value of social networks? Fairly broad consensus building that algorithms tuned to maximize addiction and dominate attention are bad, maybe even defective product design. Fixing that probably lowers engagement.
