Great to revisit Yonderland this afternoon at the BFI. The Q&A afterwards was delightfully funny too, as you might expect.

Reading @0tralala.bsky.social’s beautiful biography of David Whitaker, and not just loving the writing (obvs) but also the incidental font stuff between chapters. It’s such a lovely book so far.

I bought this this weekend from someone on Etsy. An original 60s dressing gown. At an absurdly affordable price. I think it’s the luckiest I’ve ever been on a random unique purchase ever. So insanely happy.

I was in Athens for three weeks around this time last year. The weather was like this every day. But with the infrastructure built for it. Apartments with built in shutters, aircon everywhere, fans blowing cold water mist etc. Still, this did happen as I was trying to read... more than once I think.

Never realised this had been released on DVD so this was a happy purchase this afternoon. Also hadn’t realised it was written by the brilliant Tony Roche. Daft and brilliant is how I remember it. Looking forward to a rewatch.

First major exhibition I ever went to was this restrospective with my Dad in 1988. I was 13 and utterly bowled over by the breadth of skill, methodolgy, style, casual mastery of one medium before moving onto the next. Always trying the next thing... polaroids, colour photocopiers... RIP Mr Hockney.

When I watched Blake’s 7 in 79/80 (when I was 5ish) I called it “the other Doctor Who” because I knew no better. Back then I had no idea what was going on but I loved Vila because he made jokes I didn’t really understand and drank space booze when everyone else was being serious. RIP

Listening to The Rutles on my phone and noticed that with Apple Music the album cover now fills the screen. And then had to double check I wasn't hallucinating because both Barry and Stig turned away from looking front and looked to the side instead. Apple, this pointless AI feature... why?

Great “this meeting should’ve been an email, but email hasn’t been invented yet” behaviour from Ian Fleming’s younger brother.

An earlier chairman had been lan's younger brother, Richard. Sir Claude Hankes was at a meeting where two Americans tried to offer some incredible opportunity to the bank. ‘When they finished, he said, "I'm afraid I'm not interested.
"But you were writing everything down."
"Yes," and he turned the notepad for them to see "NO" twenty times.’

Love the BFI in its physical venue form and the online player version. Proud subscriber to both. Looking for something unusual and fun to watch at home this evening. The most popular title at the moment? A four hour long documentary about a French restaurant. No. I’m clearly a pretend film pseud.

This is the maddest thing I’ve ever bought off the internet because of an advert by a Chinese based nonsense factory. Or Temu, as I believe the cool kids are calling it. Chris Sievey, if he were still alive, (I hope) would find it amusing. But I want to burn them to the ground anyway.

One of my very favourite things about the more recent Slow Horses books is that Mick Herron’s love of John Finnemore and Cabin Pressure has become a running joke there too.
Quote from Clown Town, the new Slow Horses book
“He'd better hope he's killed attempting a wheelie, because what I have in mind for him will be more protracted.'
'I'll let him know. Yellow car.'
'What now?'

I love how close Eric and Michael from the Pythons were to George Harrison. I just saw a man who was the spit of Arthur Sultan, “Surrey Mystic” and it suddenly occurred to me that that Rutles joke in 1978 was a really deep and personal mickey-take.

Enjoying this alternative timeline from Stephen Baxter’s World Engines book wherein the manager of The Rutles appears to have been a minor public school teacher in the mid-80s.
