Reposted by BrianDoing @doing.tools · 03/04/2026Useful AI tools like Granola need to be re-thought to be private, on-device, and local. There's just too many risks with sharing your data with a subscription based cloud service that has to provide VC level returns to investors. 001
Brian @brianell.in · 26/03/2026This is so awesome. I’ve been been building something with a similar ethos for non-meeting voice to text at @doing.tools - local, private, no-subscription is the future. Well done! 100

Brian @brianell.in · 05/03/2026Yes, it's a new project I've been working on - both the app and the landing page have been fun to build! Also, Handy is awesome, great choice 🙌 030
Brian @brianell.in · 05/03/2026Hey @martintale.com I'd be curious to hear your feedback/thoughts on @doing.tools - very fast, local, private voice transcription for mac. It's not free/open source, but also not a subscription. Built for working for Claude Code, etc. 120
Reposted by BrianDoing @doing.tools · 05/03/2026Want to use text-to-speech on your mac to talk with apps like Claude Code and Codex? Here's a guide on how to use Apple's built-in voice transcription model on macos 26+ for free: doing.tools/guides/macos...doing.toolsmacOS 26 Voice Transcription: Setup Guide for Developers (2026)Apple's foundation model makes Mac dictation actually good. Brian @brianell.in · 26/02/2026NVIDIA's Parakeet TDT model is the default, which in practice runs at least 10x faster than other local models like whisper. Even with a 5 or 10 minute dictation, the transcription time feels instantaneous. You can also use Apple's new foundation model on macos 26+, but it is much slower. 100
Brian @brianell.in · 26/02/2026I built a voice-to-text app for Mac that is very fast, private + local, and isn't a subscription. Designed for those building with AI who want a simple, quality tool that does one thing well. If you give it a try, I'd love to know what you think. 130

Brian @brianell.in · 21/10/2025Nice. I was confused for a bit because I couldn't see a way to sign in to Rocksky (my browser window was too narrow). Thanks! 020
Brian @brianell.in · 21/10/2025Exactly. It should be way easier to own your adventure data and do useful stuff with it. That's what the first version I'm working on is going to help facilitate. 010
Brian @brianell.in · 21/10/2025🙌 What do you like most about onX? I know they are huge in the hunting space and growing into fishing and backcountry stuff (hiking, mtb, skiing, etc). 000
Brian @brianell.in · 20/10/2025Is there currently a way to share my track plays to @teal.fm and/or @rocksky.app without running my own scrobbling service? 100
Brian @brianell.in · 20/10/2025+1 for Notes app! I'm also heavy on Trailforks and RideWithGPS, which are pretty bike-centric. 010
Brian @brianell.in · 20/10/2025I've been exploring some ideas for activity sharing and adventure route planning on atproto - will be looking for folks to help start testing soon. Here's a quick look: 291
Brian @brianell.in · 17/10/2025I asked Claude Code to build a joke based network using the atproto skill, and it pretty much one-shotted this app complete with lexicon validation, jetstream integration, etc. Wild. 040
Brian @brianell.in · 17/10/2025Simon has a great post about skills, how they work, and what they mean for the ecosystem: 030
Brian @brianell.in · 17/10/2025Made a quick #atproto "agent skill" for claude code that pulls in all the current atproto.com docs and reference implementations so claude can use them to help you build atproto stuff. Brian @brianell.in · 11/06/2025@dame.is for something with the constraint of just atptoto + bsky docs, I would try adding all the docs directly as context - i've been amazed at what challenging/obscure atproto questions claude and gemini can answer just by giving it this atproto-llms.txt filegist.github.comatproto-llms.txtatproto-llms.txt.
