Mystery Bridge Nr. 258: The Soti Ghola Bridge in Nepal
AI Generated with Gemini News has been getting around within the past few days about another flash flood and mudslide in Nepal, the second one since the devastating one on August 27th. This one happened in the Ghorka Region on October 11th. Even though residents in the river valley received dire warnings prior to the disaster and thus reduced the number of casualties significantly (the one on August 27th killed more than 1500 people and hundreds more are still reported missing and presumed dead), the magnitude of the disaster on October 11th is comparable.

Cascade Bridge: Burlington’s Prized but Controversial Historic Structure to be Replaced
Cascade Bridge in Burlington, Iowa. Photo taken in 2013 BURLINGTON, IOWA- Built in 1896 across Burlington, Iowa’s Cascade Ravine, the Cascade Bridge was both a practical route to the city’s blufftop parks and an unusual example of late-19th-century bridge engineering. Its closure to cars in 2008 began a long argument over safety, public spending, preservation and what should happen to the landmark.

📯 The next Postcard Friday feature takes us to Rendsburg in Schleswig Holstein, and to one of the lost historic bridges that was the work of a world renowned civil engineer. Rendsburg once had as many  movable bridges as the Welland Canal Bridges that served as a bypass for ships going past Niagara Falls. At least ten swing, transporter and drawbridges covered the town landscape between 1890 and 1935, built at different times during this timespan.

Upper Paris Bridge in Linn County. Photo taken in August 2011 CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA- For nearly a century and a half, the Upper Paris Bridge has stood as a striking architectural landmark in rural Linn County, Iowa. Spanning the picturesque Wapsipinicon River, this engineering marvel has connected travelers across generations. However, modern infrastructure needs and the natural passage of time have caught up with the aging crossing, bringing it to a pivotal transition point: a planned replacement.

BISMARCK, ND- The Bismarck-Mandan Railroad Bridge spanning the Missouri River between Bismarck and Mandan, North Dakota, is one of the region's most iconic pieces of transportation history. A massive infrastructure shift has replaced the historic crossing with a modern structure, despite a multi-year legal battle over historic preservation.
