Divided abruptly by the Oder-Neisse line in the closing days of the Second World War, these two communities have evolved back into a single, unified "Europastadt". This postcard came to my attention at my last visit to the flea market. There we have a scene where one finds three bridges spanning the River Neisse in Görlitz, at the Polish-German border. With a population of 45,000 inhabitants, Görlitz is the sixth largest city in Saxony and is known as the Saxon version of Hollywood. Many films had scenes taken from the town, known by the locals as Görliwood (Girly-Wood).

Endangered TRUSS: Eagle Avenue Lift Bridge in Cleveland, Ohio
All photos courtesy of Mr. P Explores; taken in 2024 Cleveland was once hailed as the city of steel. Apart from its bridge companies, the city once used to pride itself on its steel bridges throughout the metropolitan region. This included the movable bridges spanning the Cuyahoga River. However, these bridges are slowly disappearing. One by one, they are being removed because of their hindrances along the waterway; for some they are abandoned and are thus a safety hazard.

The next Pic of the Week feature takes us to Schleswig Holstein and to an area west of Rendsburg where we have a unique waterway. The Gieselau Canal is a man-made waterway that connects the River Eider with the Baltic-North Sea Canal near the town of Oldenbüttel. The Bridge by Dolly Parton
A couple days ago I posted a photo paying tribute to the late singer and actress Dolly Parton, who died on August 25th at the age of 80. Shortly after my posting, one of the readers mentioned that Dolly had two songs that had to do with a bridge. This song is one of them. The Bridge was released in 1968 and the setting was on a bridge, where two people meet and fall in love. And the rest is all history with one very abrupt exception at the end. Can you identify what it is? 💚❤️😊

Blue Earth County had a lot of bridges that had high historical value. There were also many that could have been saved. And in the case of this one, the City of Mankato should have kept it and modified it for traffic. This postcard feature looks at the Main Street Bridge, spanning the Minnesota River in downtown Mankato. It's located just two miles ENE from the new Kern Bowstring Arch Bridge site at Land of Memories and Sibley Parks.

No Comment Nr. 20- Unbelievable!
It's a disaster like no other, and one where alarm bells should be deafening loud throughout the world. A glacier in Tibet not only melted significantly, it broke off yesterday, sending a deluge of water and mud down a deep valley along the Nepal-China border. Its massive volume and size destroyed everything in its path: villages, bridges, highways and dams!
