Carney's first-ever project designated as being in the “national interest" is...a crude oil pipeline. That means the oil pipeline can bulldoze past environmental laws, impact assessments, and Indigenous consultation. It can also kill all of Vancouver's orcas. Here's what you need to know:

Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and Canada has a lot of work to do. In some ways, we’re actually backsliding right now -- from residential school denial to rights-busting "national building projects." We gotta do a better job of defending and respecting Indigenous rights:

What 🇺🇸 Swifties don’t know about “patient zero” or Gaëtan Dugas, is that he was a sweet 🇨🇦 man who volunteered to help researchers find what was making them sick & American media as you always do, vilified him and destroyed his family’s life after he tried to help & now Taylor Swift is mocking him.

It’s pretty bad that Americans brains are so fried that Taylor Swift can reference “patient zero” and the collective country can’t remember what that is a reference to while media ignores so recent of a reference to an AIDS crisis that happened in the 80’s.

The majority of the UN walked out on Netanyahu in protest for the ongoing genocide Israel is committing against Palestine in Gaza and the West Bank. The US, Ethiopia, and Nigeria among a very few that loudly cheered trying to hype the criminal.

Workers are losing their right to strike and Canada is being sold for parts so naturally Canada’s columnist class is focused on what really matters: Why the only prominent progressive voice in politics right now is Evil for criticizing a literal genocide
Robyn Urback, sharing her Globe op-ed, writes: “Avi Lewis' foolish statement should be disqualifying for the leader of a major political party.
However, because he is leader of the NDP, and because his target was Jews, it very well could boost his internal support by five points.”Gary Mason, another prominent Globe and Mail columnist, shares Robyn’s post and writes: “This is the best and most important piece I have read today. My colleague nails it. I hope Avi Lewis reads it and responds appropriately.”Stephen Maher, sharing Robyn’s op-Ed (which is titled ‘Opinion: Avi Lewis's foolish statement on 'Jewish people' should be disqualifying’) writes: “I think Lewis is in many ways impressive, and Carney is creating conditions for an NDP revival, but I must agree with this.”

Carney to the EU: "We believe that a strong economy is not an end in itself, but the means to a just society. We are committed stewards of our natural heritage. We believe that our prosperity grows when it is shared." I wish the Carney we hear in speeches was the Carney who governs Canada.

Well, it happened: Prime Minister Mark Carney announced plans to open up Canada’s four largest airports to private investment. So....privatization. That's not the only thing he pledged to a room of obnoxiously rich people. I talked to economists and a top labour leader to break this down:

Trump offers a bribe of $5,000 in exchange for votes, the bribe is promoted as a dividend and would cost $1.2 trillion dollars. This is a felony under 18 U.S.C. § 597, bribing someone to vote a certain way is a federal crime punishable by prison.

Corporations spend more than $1.5 billion a year on union-busting. That’s $1.5 billion they could have spent on higher wages, better benefits, and improving workplace safety. Remember: if they weren’t so scared of worker power, they wouldn’t fight so hard against unions.
