There’s a way that lit snobs acknowledge when a genre or otherwise too commercial novel is good that’s incredibly insulting, like a “yeah it’s good” with a shrug and nod at something they think is quaint but implicitly rejects any possibility of deeper quality.

Surprised how much better the first game is on these replays. Dead Space 2 DOES fuckin rock, but it’s more of a Resident Evil sequel than the cosmic horror and putrid tension of the first game, cheesy military guy villain and endless thrill-ride over slow terror.

It’s beyond me why Darkthrone’s discog has the reputation it does. When they were death metal they were ahead of their time. When they were black metal they were DEFINING. The “crust punk” era is misunderstood and good, and they now do retro heavy/doom like no one else can!

Disappointed by this last Bas Lag book after loving the previous two. Where Mieville had previously been so good with character he largely falters here, but in exchange there are some very resonant political themes and commentary rooted in history without didacticism.

Was really excited for this as an aesthetic influence for Werwulf but unfortunately it’s one of those movies that is aesthetically great and thematically interesting but the actual act of watching it is bad. It’s just like a guy bumbling around in mud among slobbering peasant mutants for 3 hours.
