70 civil society groups are calling on the IMF to create an SDRs Playbook. SDRs provided $650B in COVID relief without fueling inflation. Now we need reforms to unlock their full potential during crises 🔍 tinyurl.com/SDRsLetter2025 @ceprdc.bsky.social @aausa.bsky.social @eurodadnews.bsky.social

A Global Coalition of 70 Civil Society Groups Calls for an SDRs Playbook to Unlock Emergency Finance

At the 2025 Financing for Development Forum, nearly every country in the world endorsed the Compromiso de Sevilla, urging the IMF to create a Special Drawing Rights playbook. Today, 70 organizations call for reforms to maximize global financial stability and development finance, including automatic issuances, needs-based distribution, and equity-based accounting.

Our new analysis found that between FY2018-2023, the World Bank classified 70% of energy-related DPF reforms as climate finance. However, there's little evidence these reforms improved energy access, affordability, or progress on a green transition. 🔗 tinyurl.com/ClimateFinan...
We call on the World Bank to:
1. End policy-conditional climate finance enforcing private-led trsbitions
2. Align with Just Transition principles
Ensure full transparency in climate finance accounting

Our latest study reveals how the World Bank is using its Development Policy Finance (DPF) instrument to push energy sector reforms that promote a private-led energy transition – while counting these policy changes as ‘climate finance’. 🔗 tinyurl.com/ClimateFinan...
New data shows the World Bank counted 70% of energy-sector reforms in Development Policy Financing as having 'climate co-benefits' between 2018-2023 - but most of these promoted a private-led energy transition
