Last week, not one but two audits on Seattle's surveillance apparatus dropped. Such sloppy implementation of this surveillance program, especially the SDOT traffic cameras and private cameras, is troubling and doesn't appear to take community concerns seriously.

"Public Outreach" #DOOMLOOP #seattle
OLDER LADY: I'm furious about this new street revision! the city didn't do enough public outreach before starting construction!
YOUNGER LADY: [looking at phone] Hm. It says here they held a series of 8 listening sessions and 4 public site walks over the past 3 years
-They also sent 6 targeted mailers and hand-delivered surveys to every residence in the area. 67% of our neighbors support it
OL: That's not the kind of outreach I'm talking about!
YL: Oh. What kind did you mean?
OL: [fists balled] The kind that never ends!

Seattle voters are credulous af with the civic memory of gnats but they do NOT like when big corps try to put a hand on the scales. I don't understand why national Dems aren't screaming about Musk'a unprecedented PAC spending

Brett Hamil @bretthamil.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Here in Seattle, candidates routinely win when Amazon overplays their hand. In 2019 AMZ dumped $1.5M into city council elections, doubling their PAC $$ from 2015. Progressives screamed about it, fomented a backlash & AMZ ended up losing 5 out of 7 races. & Musk is 1000x more hated than AMZ

TRAY THE TALKING SCHOOL CAFETERIA TRAY: Remember when city council defunded universal free school lunches for Important Budget Reasons
-then everyone yelled at them and they had to reinstate it?
-Right around that same time they also found out that SPD overpaid their officers by $13 million
-[growing angrier] and we still don't know if they're even gonna pay it all back!
-That's enough money to feed every public school student for 3 years!
-Anyways, “food” for thought!

when ppl say we should find the "middle ground" in local politics remember we get 3 choices: 1) Chamber/big biz-approved ppl who automatically get the most money in any race they're in, 2) institutional progressives, & 3) every 8 or so years we get 1 populist-left candidate unions bother to support

"Smart Growth Plan" ft. D5 candidate Julie Kang #doomloop #bretthamil
JULIE KANG: You can’t put more housing in neighborhoods where people already live! They might not like it!
[in front of easel that reads "D5 Smart Growth Plan"] That’s why I’ve identified several sites in District 5 that everyone would be ok with
[gesturing at map] Here’s a nice lot between the tow yard and the hazardous waste transfer station [*actual example]
[pointing at picture of a culvert with brackish water running out of it] Here’s a lovely tract just downhill from the raw sewage sluice!
[picture of a tar pit surrounded by trees with a washing machine, a bike, and various garbage sinking into it] and there’s also the Weeping Tar Bog of Northgate
-All of these places would be *perfect* for renters!

end result of reactionary centrists coopting the language of the left to do...extremely not-left stuff. they don't care abt what developers or poor ppl or anyone else does, they just don't want new housing built and they'll leverage any social justice-speak they can to make sure it doesn't happen

NIMBYs gotta have the most thought-terminating tropes of any group I've ever seen. Barely pretending to care just to uphold status quo "a bunch of new luxury shitbox apartments that are too expensive? what about the poor ppl" "You must be a tool of developers" "Actually we have *too much* housing"

Juarez was also a major proponent of a $160M new North Precinct for the SPD, "the most expensive precinct building in United States history." A militarized, fortified luxury bunker. (We blocked it). Remember the Bunker when she tries to pull some shady shit on this year's budget
The Seattle police are in the news again. This time for a lavish new $160 million North Precinct building that The Seattle Times’ Brier Dudley claims is the most expensive precinct building in United States history. The epic structure contains a 106,082-square-foot precinct house straddling a 241,019-square-foot parking garage. In other words, the complex is 70% parking.
