![JULIE KANG: You can’t put more housing in neighborhoods where people already live! They might not like it!
[in front of easel that reads "D5 Smart Growth Plan"] That’s why I’ve identified several sites in District 5 that everyone would be ok with
[gesturing at map] Here’s a nice lot between the tow yard and the hazardous waste transfer station [*actual example]
[pointing at picture of a culvert with brackish water running out of it] Here’s a lovely tract just downhill from the raw sewage sluice!
[picture of a tar pit surrounded by trees with a washing machine, a bike, and various garbage sinking into it] and there’s also the Weeping Tar Bog of Northgate
-All of these places would be *perfect* for renters!](https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_thumbnail/plain/did:plc:carj4mhaflwfubqzioy5wxl3/bafkreidujxkrfydx357cvyaolmntccpe5w3e6djxgek2voatwezykxszke)
![GUARD: [standing before tribunal of hooded figures] All rise for the Secret Tribunal of Nice Things! Step forward, supplicant
SUPPLICANT: Esteemed Tribunal, we’ve lost so many Nice Things lately
-Bicycle Weekends, car-free Pike Place Market. Please give them back!
-We’d also like more public restrooms, a Capitol Hill superblock, and police accountability
HOODED JUDGE: Best we can do is 10 mobile app toilets and a light rail station at a golf course
SUPPLICANT: But-
GUARD: Now bow and say thank you](https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_thumbnail/plain/did:plc:carj4mhaflwfubqzioy5wxl3/bafkreie3yrfqrzn3vfzu7go5bgwpm2daxvrwwtavgzrbddt22kqwuc6qdm)
![TRAY THE TALKING SCHOOL CAFETERIA TRAY: Remember when city council defunded universal free school lunches for Important Budget Reasons
-then everyone yelled at them and they had to reinstate it?
-Right around that same time they also found out that SPD overpaid their officers by $13 million
-[growing angrier] and we still don't know if they're even gonna pay it all back!
-That's enough money to feed every public school student for 3 years!
-Anyways, “food” for thought!](https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_thumbnail/plain/did:plc:carj4mhaflwfubqzioy5wxl3/bafkreicpbs63r3xczj7ajnezhjasgvf6u4lpxeh3wotrrwdiky4hldgtua)
![BOB KETTLE: We need some answers from the mayor on public safety!
BOB: For starters, why did she fire the police chief?
[CAPTION: Because he was out of town 40% of the time]
BOB: And why did it take so long for the mayor to have a press conference after the Bite of Seattle shootings?
[CAPTION: because she had to wait for the chief and his 2 top deputies to fly back into town from a conference in Dallas]
BOB: Does the mayor even have a public safety plan?
[CAPTION: crime rates are down in all categories this year]
BOB: [pointing at caption] Can we please get rid of these text boxes? t’s very distracting[CAPTION: but you said you needed answers]
-In closing, um, crime is bad and I blame the mayor
[CAPTION: this press conference could’ve been a Nextdoor post]](https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_thumbnail/plain/did:plc:carj4mhaflwfubqzioy5wxl3/bafkreigdxkhrf3mhk3lkxinipmbbgwynfqiutbielptapyykwpx5qarcy4)
![GUY: I'm a Seattle Gen Xer. We’ve always been about “fighting the power.”
-I got teargassed at the WTO protests! I jammed with Kurt and Krist! I'm as “down” as it gets!
-[picture of mom & dad and glass of whiskey on side table] But ever since i inherited my parents’ Ballard craftsman i’ve been seeing things differently
-[ghost dad standing behind him with hand on shoulder] It turns out I agree with Ol' Dad on a lot of stuff. But in my own contrarian, disaffected Gen X way, of course!
-[eyes going blank, ghost dad grasping both sides of his head with an eerie glow] CHANGE IS BAD! CRIME IS EVERYWHERE! BIKE LANES ARE COMMUNIST! FORCED LABOR CAMPS FOR THE HOMELESS!
-[calm, with Dad's hand resting on his forehead] Sometimes it feels like he's still here with us!](https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_thumbnail/plain/did:plc:carj4mhaflwfubqzioy5wxl3/bafkreifhmiy2evrztn2iftgpbyvzl7eolhk73ryop47e47vxmwtkkkbx74)
![[middleaged guy in front of vacant, boarded up building]
-I’m a volunteer landmark historian and I'm here to document this building
-In the mid-1980s it was Ned's Diner, the very first restaurant in the region to serve loaded potato skins
-a vital part of the foodways of Wallingfordian culture in the late 20th century
-if the city grants my historic landmark designation we can preserve this important piece of culinary heritage
-honoring our forebears and their innovations in casual family dining
-oh and also they won’t be able to put a 64-unit apartment building here](https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_thumbnail/plain/did:plc:carj4mhaflwfubqzioy5wxl3/bafkreiegis3h44qdjmmaai3whjkas3k2kea2dyos4j4oqr6znsp2ca7sn4)
