Meet the developers rejecting AI
A growing number of developers are rejecting AI, even when it costs them clients, job offers, and their careers.

yeah for real, most of the big coding YTers are just AI boosters now lol; maybe there's new space for the AI haters?

for sure! I think when the human code review is stopped, all bets are off for the slop tsunami lol. but also, reviewing tons of code generated at LLM-pace is exhausting and very very difficult

Beware: Real risks of using AI as a software dev team
YouTube video by Brett Codes

Brett Codes @brettcodes.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
agree! when a lot of convo online is about software dev going faster, there's been very little said about the challenges and risks; the ai companies & boosters want us to think there's no other option than full agentic (it's in their financial interest), but that's not true, there are options!

there are plenty more examples in the blog post. i thought this might be useful for engs & eng leaders who are starting to doubt or have already rejected AI

Beware the erosion of team culture and morale.

Brett Codes @brettcodes.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Beware new hires being isolated and told to ask the chatbot.
230
Brett Codes @brettcodes.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Beware junior engineers being isolated by replacing collaborative human conversations with the chatbot. Onboarding and mentorship are as important as ever. Chatbots aren’t suitable substitutes.
120
Brett Codes @brettcodes.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Beware feature bloat. People want focused, reliable, fast, stable, and functional software.
130
Brett Codes @brettcodes.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Beware LLM-generated writing that's used in human communication. It's always excessively verbose and typically useless. Nothing good comes from AI-generated internal communications.
130
Brett Codes @brettcodes.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Beware building features the team doesn’t understand. When things go wrong and the chatbot can't figure it out, it’s a bad situation.

yeah, it really is a bummer. I'm glad there are other like-minded ppl out there, i had no idea other devs were quite going through the same stuff and having similar concerns

i was looking up details surrounding the removal of dhh's quote from the neovim website and the maintainer's closing comment has real Hideo Kojima "you will feel ashamed of your words & deeds" vibes lol

thanks for sharing htis, I've been so confused by the recent nepotism with the funding of it and wondering why an NGO maintaining an arch linux config needs US$20mil+ in funding, it's bizarre and worrisome

yeah! an "impassioned" keynote speech about how rust is unreadable and how we don't need to read the code anymore; a person who through nepotism has raised US$20mil for his arch linux config ngo; the most real certification i could imagine

the idea of "let me end this keynote presentation by bullying people who make different decisions than me" is very on brand for DHH; I have nothing but disrespect to the guy for so many reasons; he's always been mean/cruel/rude since I started using Rails in 2011

well it depends on what you mean by suggestions! there's what's sometimes called "omnicompletion" which is it helps you finish writing a function that it knows exists for the language or your code

I see what you mean for sure. I think it doesn't bring it down a notch tho. It ends up being used by people to justify its use by ignoring the harms, irresponsible behavior by the major providers, and not thinking about it holistically. Better to be explicit about it all

Brett Codes @brettcodes.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
...that's a major point of my writing—that there's harm to framing it that way and it's not an effective way to criticize AI or to justify the use of it
