You don't know me, I don't know you, we aren't friends. You do not shorten my name. Get blocked you loser.

Again, you crawled onto my porch with your bullshit. You can stop any time you want. This says a lot more about you than it does about me. People in my feed know who I am, I'm a terminally online curmudgeon. I'll fight anyone. Who the fuck are you?

My husband agrees. Maybe if more people told you that and loved you, you wouldn't act like such a dweeb.

Just incredible loser energy to come onto my porch and talk shit and then be surprised when I hit back. Seek help.

I would be such a sucker to spend thousands of dollars, including opportunity cost from taking time off work, to pay a bunch of parasites to take their test that they admit is worthless, and that is completely useless to me, a person who has zero interest in the professional practice of law.

Brendan Salisbury @brendanws90.bsky.social · 14/10/2026
Imagine basing your self-worth on mocking a random internet stranger for not taking a test that the test's own administrators admit is useless as a metric for determining competence. I've been working as a legislative professional for 5 years. Most of the jobs I'm qualified for are JD advantage.

At the very, very least it is not so cut and dry that they are indistinct, and a good attorney would know better than to be so insistent that they are correct without actually reviewing the other side's argument and simply being dismissive.

They are etymologically and historically distinct terms, and Cornell's LII is helpful but not a definitive source of information. Judges and attorneys in my orbit make the distinction, and hundreds of firms in the first few pages of Google results have info on the distinction on their websites.

It's a free country, you can be wrong any way you like. Sorry you're so insecure that you feel the need to gatekeep the term "lawyer" because apparently "attorney" and "require" aren't enough to get you hard.

Brendan Salisbury @brendanws90.bsky.social · 14/10/2026
Yes, it is. Google, and the absolute flood of resources you can find when you search "attorney vs lawyer", is free. Also, hi, lawyer (not attorney) here. The terms are colloquially synonymous but there is, in fact, a meaningful distinction. Would love to see you cite your source that I'm wrong.

That said, pretty sure this lady called herself an attorney, not a lawyer, so she's still breaking the law if she's holding herself out as being professionally licensed to practice law but hasn't been admitted anywhere.
000
Brendan Salisbury @brendanws90.bsky.social · 14/10/2026
Look, not to split hairs, but a JD literally does make you a lawyer. It doesn't make you an ATTORNEY. Attorney is the professional designation for a person who has obtained a license to practice law (and can use "Esq." in emails). Lawyer ≠ attorney. A law professor at NYU should know the difference.

Multiple things are true here. This is a fascist, authoritarian administration. It has not yet fully consolidated power. Some of its efforts to do so have been frustrated. Trump is a doddering, confused egomaniac who started an unpopular war that's costing everyday people a lot of money.

I get that I'm a nobody with no following and that I've fallen far from my twitter days, but the idea that you can dismiss and ignore someone because they're a low-follower account always strikes me as extremely goofy. We're all just screaming into the void, the size of it is meaningless.

@ruthz.bsky.social you're happy to go on CBS and give your pitch there, where Toby can fumble. Why won't you answer these sorts of pointed questions here? Last time we talked you said you weren't anti-gun, you're anti-gun-violence and you're open to a conversation. Where'd that energy go? #mapoli

Brendan Salisbury @brendanws90.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
But the gun violence dashboard! Setting aside whether the dashboard is valuable or not, assuming that EOPSS couldn't have just...done that, without the legislature empowering them, shouldn't that have been its own bill? Instead of this "throw shit at the wall" approach? #mapoli

Oh, but you have to say what your job is and where you work when you buy ammunition now (unless you buy it out of state of course). Oh, but at least we cracked down on "assault *style* firearms". Except we made everything so confusing the state refuses to take ASF cases to trial. #mapoli

Brendan Salisbury @brendanws90.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
New training requirements? The state has punted repeatedly. A registry? Actually just the exact same transaction portal we already had. ASF roster? FCAB says it's impossible to capture everything. General firearms roster? FCAB punted and said they wouldn't enforce. #mapoli

Why can "Yes" campaigners never seem to actually answer this question? Ghost guns? A non-issue: 8 incidents since 2013. Red flags? Basically never utilized in court, LTCs typically get pulled for "suitability". Machine gun conversions? Already illegal on the federal level. #mapoli

Our gun control laws have been some of the strictest in the nation for decades, and our gun death rate has consistently been the lowest. There's never been a K-12 school shooting in MA, the last college campus shooting was in 1992, and the last mass shooting in 2000. What are you solving? #mapoli

Was a real pleasure to speak at the Amherst Democratic Town Committee in support of #Noon9 last night. At the end of the day we all want our communities and neighbors to be safe. We get there by improving quality of life, not by doubling down on reactive, punitive policies. Vote "No" in Nov! #mapoli

I'm willing to get on board with bringing back the firing squad, so long as it is used only as the execution method for every person who has advocated to bring back the firing squad.

You understand that reactivity and deterrence is inappropriate for other issues, but not for guns. Why the dead angle on this specific issue? Point me to one thing in the bill that "prevents" anything, just one thing. Let's see if it holds up to scrutiny. #mapoli

I'm say it again, as many times as it takes Ruth: this isn't the "NRA's" repeal effort, and ch. 135 doesn't prevent gun violence. It increases carceral responses to already illegal behavior, an approach that every single prohibitionist movement has tried, and it has failed every time. #mapoli

My husband visited last week and brought disease with him, and I'm deeply envious of his immune system because for him it was an annoying cold and for me it has felt like my sinuses are trying to tear themselves out of my face while I'm having an asthma attack and my ears are filled with water.

An elected official isn't a hero or a revolutionary. They're not meant to save the world. They're meant to wield the apparatus of government to ease the burden on their constituents. To provide a strong foundation for people to come together and solve problems collectively. Service as leadership.

Brendan Salisbury @brendanws90.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
Things like this are the lessons people need to take from Mamdani. He's not effective because he's fulfilling big campaign promises, he's effective because he understands that government exists to make life easier, and the only way you convince people that's true is doing it, in the smallest ways.

Too many saw correction as an attack, guidance as undermining the cause, and when things fell apart they'd blame anything but their stubborn ignorance. The right wing understands the limits of municipal, county, and state government, and makes full use of that knowledge. The left needs to catch up.

I've seen too much advocacy fail, people burning themselves out screaming at the wrong people, the wrong level of government, until they finally decide there's nothing that can be done, their voice isn't being heard, and they become bitter, cynical, and apathetic.

Nothing would please me more than to have more people become civically engaged at the municipal level. It's why I launched a civics academy in the community I work in, and why it's coming back next year, new and improved. But engagement has to be informed.

If you're envious of NYC, learn how your local government works. Learn the actual constraints on their authority. Learn to see through the bombast or woe-is-me from those who are invested in having you believe they hold more or less power than they actually do. Read state law, ask questions.
110
Brendan Salisbury @brendanws90.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Can other municipalities learn lessons from Mamdani's success? Absolutely. But it's simply fantasy to suggest that everything he's done could very easily be done elsewhere. State laws and governmental structures vary, and some places really are already doing their best with what they've got.
110
Brendan Salisbury @brendanws90.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
I wish this were actually true, but NYC has a budget roughly 8x larger than the entire state budget of MA. It's an economic powerhouse with a unique capacity that was underutilized for a long time. Also, NYC's ability to self-govern is significantly greater than many places.
