it would take so much more work to untangle those wires because a lot of seasonal storytelling is just built around the quests that ask you to replay the mind-numbing activities so they'd have to completely restructure them into something more digestible

Red War is a non-sequitur story for the launch, Curse of Osiris has been memed on since before it came out and Warmind was pretty uninspired. I am also so much more worried about the stability of the game because you could always feel Destiny creak under the weight of seasonal content pre-wipe.

The seasonal storytelling after Beyond Light was infinitely more compelling than vaulted expansions and a lot of Forsaken's hype lay in its quantity of content as well as the reversal of some baffling design choices from launch.

tl;dr: i need the wipe and update in 3 weeks to be good to prove that bungie is capable of addressing some of the core complaints i still have with the game. every kind of player is getting a win in december and i want the ramping excitement to december to win back disillusioned players and new ones

the update and wipe in 3 weeks is more or less if we think bungie's actually addressing our issues with the current feel of the game, new content aside

arc raiders did extremely well and they still made the same decision with regard to content/major update cadence. there's no real reason bungie needs to hold themselves to seasonal constraints, which also contributed to destiny's death of a thousand cuts

i think what goes unmentioned a lot of the time wrt to pve players is how difficult it is for "narrative" to get delivered to them (vault breakers didn't help with that) and if bungie can reconfigure their approach to that by discarding the stress of seasonal deadlines then that goes a long way

we are getting BOTH dedicated PVE and a fucking arena mode! everybody got a win here why are we dooming and only blaming pve players, so many people in so many servers wanted TDM as well

pushing the update all the way out to december means that we'll have infinitely more details to overwhelm potentially returning or new players with as we get closer to the update because telling people "marathon is getting dedicated pve, pvp and a social space (i will help sell this lie that the firing range is a social space)"

again, if the wipe/update in 3 weeks isn't awful then im content to play the game at a more relaxed pace until december and fit some other games in, let's not pretend like a lot of people aren't going to jump to stuff like GTA or w/e inbetween anyways
