Lookin for scary reads this October. Gimme some recs. I've obviously read some Stephen King but that's about it for "horror." I can handle scary books much better than movies/TV so let 'er rip.

These are still up on digital if anyone wants to read a collection of essays on the 2002 Flip Skateboards video “Sorry.” and its place/impact on culture and society - for a mere $2. brendanmenapace.bigcartel.com/product/Sorr... I'm also working on the follow-up, if anyone's interested in that.

Some ball players retire and become coaches. Others become pundits. Some open car dealerships. Garrett Stubbs’ post playing career will be being paid to attend weddings and get the dance floor going. Marsh coming too costs extra.

Yeah man this is the problem. This chosen sports fan lifestyle is exhausting and obnoxious and gets you no closer to achieving nirvana. Don’t be the “I’m just kind of the asshole of the friend group.”

Any Phillies fan saying they should lose to be “put out of their misery” should not be allowed to watch. The point is to get as many games as possible and to cheer for them in all of them. Death to this Righteous Loser behavior endemic to Philadelphia especially.

This Phillies team will be remembered for being entertaining if nothing else. Massively slumping and taking it to game 162 is good TV, you have to admit.

ICYMI I went to the Ed Sheeran show where he made even more statements. I wrote about the experience, but mostly the idea that Ed Sheeran as a man and musical product are not built to withstand this sort of thing (thinking critically). I had fun with this www.snakesandsparklers.com/p/they-sent-...

I wrote about going to the Ed Sheeran concert and hearing his statements, and thought about how Ed Sheeran as a man and consumable product just aren't meant to withstand any sort of controversy or even critical thought at all. www.snakesandsparklers.com/p/they-sent-...

For @billboard.com: I went to the Ed Sheeran show in Philly - his first after kicking Macklemore off the tour and losing his openers/backing band. Ed addressed the elephant (kinda sorta), but the crowd didn’t seem too stressed about any of that anyway… www.billboard.com/music/music-...

I saw Shane Gillis at Helium in 2016 for Philly’s Phunniest, and he was pretty good, but in my opinion he was nowhere near the guy who tried and failed to do only crowd work with a puppet. I think about that set way more than anything Shane Gillis has ever done.

More statues for animals. Most animals need statues more than most humans, really. There's a statue of a bulldog in my neighborhood in the center of benches in a park, so everyone faces the dog, and I was heartbroken to learn that it's not even commemorating a real dog. Still fun though.

I am extremely fine and normal about this album release
Fallon also enlisted Brandon Flowers from the Killers, now fresh off of his country pivot, for the Western-ish “Love At the End of the World.” Flowers and Fallon first bonded over Depeche Mode years ago and have stayed in touch.

“I just asked Brandon, ‘Hey man, would you help me write a song?’” Fallon says. “And he was like, ‘Sure, fly out here!’ So I flew out to Utah and just hung out and wrote a song, and that was it. I came home. We went to Einstein’s Bagel. It was really, really simple. Brandon’s a Jersey Guy, for sure. That guy is totally legit.”

"Not Bad For New Jersey" is out on digital today, so why don't you go ahead and read my interview with Brian Fallon about it? New Jersey DNA and how it manifests in music he makes and loves, the importance of a wink, and growing more comfortable with himself as he gets older. Brian rocks.

Maybe it’s not the takeaway to have, but I think about how in this era of edgy “You can’t even say anything anymore” comedians, Dolly Parton showed that you can be very, very funny without making anyone feel bad.
