Sonic The Hedgehog (Master System/Game Gear). A quick diversion before the DS era. This actually surprised me a bit! Plays more like a Mario title than a Sonic title but with tighter physics and arguably more fun level design. Quite unforgiving but just the right length at around ~1 hour. 6/10

Sonic Advance 3. Started this one not vibing with it whatsoever due to the Tag Team mechanic (still not sold on it) but the game finds its stride quickly. Gimmicky obstacles and unnecessary alterations to character abilities come to mind as frustrating. A nice GBA era conclusion. 7/10

I've not made many posts about in-progress 2D Sonic titles since I started this ranking effort but I'm about 80% of the way through SonicA3 and I am torn on this one already. It's clearly a good game but held back by level design that prioritises pain for the player. The aesthetics are 👌

Sonic Advance 2. A very, very good Sonic game. Impressed with this and a clear improvement over the first GBA title. A roster of original zones (shoutout Music Plant!), a better soundtrack than the OG, and the gameplay is a LOT more fluid. 7.5/10 - Mania upped to 8.5/10 (prev 8/10).

Obviously very happy for Kimi Antonelli, but this whole season couldn't be easier for him in terms of a maiden title win. There is so little on-track battling in this formula, and GR has fallen out of fashion with Mercedes since Australia #F1

Sonic 4 Episode II. Given the absolute shitemare that 1 was, I'm still very impressed with how much better this game is in every imaginable way. A great recovery job for a doomed project. It has made me recalibrate my scoring a bit as I do think this game is solid. 6.5/10. CD reworked to a 7.

Someone needs to tell Nintendo that they don't have to make all their games open world. BOTW has done irreparable damage to their level of creativity. After the vast, empty, and puddle-deep worlds of Mario Kart World and DK Bananza - I'm a bit concerned about Kirby and the World Beyond.

Sonic 4 Episode I. The absolute pits of the series, maybe even 2D platforming itself. I went into this one trying to keep an open mind but it's hard to put into words how awful it is. Horrendous art style. Shit Graphics. Abysmal Music. Offensive Gameplay. It misses the mark in every way.

On that Nintendogs 'leak', I've always been a massive fan of the feline slander shown by the last entry in the series. Like Miyamoto said: "Cats don't get the 'Ninten' treatment because they're inferior to dogs. They're relegated to a subtitle appropriately and should be happy they're even there"

Beyond excited that Nintendo tossed the Zelda stuff into its own direct; it'll give us more time for the 10 minute Nintendogs + Cats + Reptiles deep dive tomorrow in the real direct.

Sonic Mania rattled out on this fine Monday. Still an absolute banger, but I have cooled on it a little bit since release and especially during this marathon. It's a brilliant game with an ace soundtrack + sprite animations; but the returning zone choices are either a bit safe or bland. 8.5/10

People do shit on it a lot (myself included!), but Forza Horizon can be really cool at times with random player interactions. Spontaneous tandem drifting at Hakone? Sure, why not.

Sonic CD now in the books. I dunno, that shit is still mid. Elite tier soundtrack and nice graphics hard carry it a bit. The level design is just so mediocre and the time travel mechanic ain't it either.
