We’re enjoying improvising seaside stories with Bamfield Lodge residents at the moment! Just back from another session today where we created a story about fizzy-wine flavoured sticks of rock! One more session to go with the current funding, but we hope to return to this work before too long.
A photograph taken in the lounge of a care home with a low white ceiling and pink chair surrounding the edge of the room. Older people are sitting on the chairs. In the foreground on the left a tall white man in his 30s wearing a dark green T-shirt and turquoise shorts holds a small fishing rod from which is dangling a silver fabric fish. On the right a smaller white woman in her 40s with dark hair tied up in a bun wearing black framed spectacles and a long black T-shirt is holding a printed artwork of a rock pool on a beach.A colour photograph taken in the living room of a care home with low white ceilings and walls pink chair around the edge of the room and older people are sitting on the chairs. Thanks Exmouth Festival for hosting our seaside family improv show The Keepers today! There was metal-detecting, a shark attack and two people abseiled off a cliff, all inspired from seaside postcards written by the audience. With thanks to these lovely audience members who joined us for a photo.
Two photographs stacked one on top of the other. Both show a vertical striped red and white lighthouse structure in a very yellow dry festival field with a band stand and a banner saying Exmouth festival beyond. In front of the lighthouse in the top photo a group of five people. Left to right: a white woman in her 40s wearing a black cap, cream dungarees and a pale blue T-shirt stands in a warrior pose holding a green children’s fishing net aloft. Next to her a black woman in her 40s wearing a black tunic and dark shorts stands smiling. Next to her a white man in his 30s in a black cap pale Ollie blue T-shirt and cream dungarees crouches down smiling. Next to him a white woman in her 30s wearing a pale bucket hat and a navy sundress crouches smiling next to a small white child in a navy bucket hat, navy dress with floral print and pink leggings in the act of looking through a plastic telescope.

The photograph below is almost exactly the same except the white woman in her 40s with the black cap pale blue T-shirt and cream dungarees is now holding a navy sailor scarf with a white stripe around the edge and is speaking to a white child who is aged around 10. They have long blonde hair in a plat and are wearing a pale blue cap, a dark navy T-shirt, pale blue shorts and have a pair of black binoculars around their neck.

White text top right of the top photograph says the keepers today at Exmouth festival.

“It’s been brilliant!” I recently finished a series of weekly storytelling workshops I’ve been running on behalf of Bristol Improv Theatre at Filwood Community Centre for the last 2 months. We explored many improv techniques and how these can be deployed in lots of different creative contexts.

“Fabulous acting. Loved it! Big plot twist and excellent storyline. Pitched brilliantly for my 8 year old. I enjoyed it a lot. I was inspired. The best I have been to. Wonderfully to see children enthusiastically taking part.” Feedback for The Mexico Mission! show yesterday at Wimborne Library.
Colour photo of two actors standing on a pavement outside a red brick building with large white letters over the door saying Wimborne Library. On the left a tall white man in his 30s with short ginger hair and a neat beard wearing a teal tee shirt with Brave Bold Drama printed on it in cream and turquoise shorts. He’s shielding his eyes from the sun and smiling. On the right a small white woman in her 40s with dark curly bobbed hair, sunglasses, a purple teeshirt and grey joggers stands smiling with hands in pockets. Colour photo of a theatre poster in an A frame in the foyer of a library. Poster advertises a show called The Mexico Mission!

Poster has a border of bright coloured red, orange, yellow and pink flowers: roses, carnations and primroses. Rich royal blue background. On the left a group of actors of varying sizes grouped together like on a film poster. At the top a large Hispanic woman in her 40s with dark eyes looks serious, wearing a close-fitting dark hat and holds a 1930s style camera. Underneath her, slightly smaller, a white woman in her 40s wearing an orange headscarf tied in a bow on top of her head and an orange embroidered tunic looked concernedly over the top of some white plastic framed sunglasses. To the right of her, a white man in his 30s wearing an orange fedora, a large fake black bushy handlebar moustache and a short sleeved navy shirt with red lobster print holds a magnifying glass up to one eye and looks shocked. Next to him, slightly smaller, a while woman in her 40s with long straight blonde hair wears a white furry bucket hat and a white hoodie, points directly out to camera and looks annoyed. Beneath her, the smallest of all the figures, a while man in his 30s wears a black leather fedora, a long black leather coat over a black shirt, black leather gloves, and looks suspiciously to the left while reaching with his right hand for a framed portrait of the artist Frida Kahlo.

Text in red over a yellow paint streak top right says The Mexico Mission can you crack a million-dollar case? under that in yellow against the blue background it says adventure theatre for families. Bottom right the number 7+ in yellow within a red triangle.

Who died October 23rd 1703
Aged 33 Years.
In bloom of Life
She's snatched from hence,
She had not room To make defence; for Tyger fierce Took Life away.
And here she lies
In a bed of Clay,
Until the Resurrection Day.

Proud to announce our co-AD Gill Simmons has been given a place on the One City Bristol Culture Board. She’s there to represent and speak up for freelance working class artists. Find out more about the Culture Board here: www.bristolonecity.com/the-culture-...
Colour photo of a white woman in her 40s with dark curly hair and dark eyes standing by a sign on a building that says Bristol City Hall. She wearing a white teeshirt that says Restore Bristol Arts Funding on it in blue and a pale grey fur coat. Above the photo a blue and green logo says Bristol One City and then Culture Board in black. Underneath it says We've been given a place at this table!
Attended the first meeting today.Black text on white says

Gill is on this board to represent her perspective as a working class Bristolian freelance theatre maker
At the meeting today she:
explained that artists, especially those in ephemeral forms like theatre, need long term genuine associations with bricks & mortar cultural institutions
called for more transparency about how much money that is assigned to or generated by cultural organisations actually goes to freelance artists (on whose labour the organisation actually depends)
called for the city to first acknowledge and then actually address the class barriers that means working class artists, especially in storytelling artforms of theatre, TV & film are becoming problematically rare
